Students will apply critical thinking and scientific methods of thinking
(including logical and empirical reasoning) to issues regarding children’s well-being. As a child development major, students will be able to apply their understanding in critical thinking and scientific methods of thinking learn through multiple courses at California State University of Chico to facilitate the children’s well-being. They will be able to use critical, logical, and empirical reasoning and apply it to their work. They will also be able to use their knowledge gained in class to identify, analyze and evaluate the information, formulate ideas, and rationalize on the issues regarding the children’s well-being and apply to their workplace.
What comprises critical thinking skills and abilities?

I have gained the experiences through a variety of my classes and internships. Through my classes and internships, I am able to gather data and record information about a child’s development, learned to use scientific tools and methods to test hypothesis and construct a research paper. I also learned to evaluate the observations of the children and their stage of development. In addition, I learned how to search for something using different key words. For instance, for my research paper for CHLD 353, I constructed a research paper with a partner about the relationship between authoritative parenting style and parental expectations.
