One of the greatest conflicts in the history of the United State of America, the Revolutionary War, was started when the colonies of North America declared themselves independent from British rule. A group of men known as the Founding Fathers, which included George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John and Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and others, formed the Continental Congress to rule their new nation. They chose Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence, which they would send to King George III to make their independence official. Jefferson knew that he needed to use strong language to make a solid agrument against British rule in the colonies and to convince the colonists that independence was the only choice to maintain their freedom as human beings. The powerful use of parallelism, ethos, pathos, and logos helpd Thomas Jefferson to convey his idea that all men are created equal with unalienable rights and that it is the duty of the government to protect those rights.
John lived throughout the greatest time in human history. He lived during the time of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, God incarnate on Earth. His Gospel thoroughly documents the teaching of God, the miracles He performed, and the ultimate sacrifice that He gave. John thoroughly describes how the Word became flesh in Jesus Christ. By a thorough analyzation of the Nicodemus story, one can clearly see the necessity of Baptism and the need for the Holy Spirit in the Christian faith. Jesus is the Lamb of God and the Bread of life. We are invited to literally eat Jesus as the Eucharist and drink His blood as wine. Jesus is the light of the world that gives light to the man born blind when he gives him sight. Those that witnessed His divine testimony would certainly ascertain that Jesus is God. The son of God, the one that fulfills and surpasses the Old Testament prophecies as revealed in the Gospel of John. With John’s teaching, one can clearly see Jesus’ true identity as the New Adam and Universal Savior.

Of all the debates that concern the Christian faith, the most important lies in the understanding of the very one whom the faith professes to follow: Jesus Christ. Who was Jesus Christ, and what did He do here on this earth? In noting the importance of these issues the apostle Paul goes so far as to make the startling claim that the Christian faith is useless if predicated on a false assumption of Christ’s saving work (1 Cor. 15:14). Indeed, there are no truths more central to our faith than the personhood and work of Jesus Christ, and yet serious disagreements exist regarding the nature of these tenets. Jesus lived here on earth as fully divine and yet fully human in one and the same person, and His death on the cross served as a perfect sacrifice and substitute for the necessary punishment of death that all sinners deserve.
The song Where is the Love by Black Eyed Peas has several examples of logos, ethos and pathos along. It is also a critique of the downhill spiral our society is taking whether it is war, racism, exaggerated media, or selfish adults. The title of the song itself fits into the theme of individuals versus society.
The author begins by recognizing that the use of parables are not unique methods of teaching and may be found in a “variety of literary forms” with the expressed intention of making a ‘rhetorical point” (p. 2). “Parables were the means Jesus used most frequently to explain the kingdom of God, and to show the character of God and the expectation that God has for humans” (p.2). Throughout history, people and entire societies have heard of the Gospel. The Gospel is the considered to be the “heart” of the Biblical Narrative. In other words, the entire Bible centers around the Gospel and what the Gospel entails. Many have heard of the Gospel, but what lies deeper within the context of the Gospel message? People have heard of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are Biblical books in the New Testament that discuss Jesus’ life. They bring the reader from Jesus’ birth to His death in a chronological order. We can read about the miracles he performed and about all of the trials he faced in these books. However, the Gospel is about more than how Jesus lived and what he did. It is about why he came to earth and sacrificed himself and why this is important to us as humans. Through Him, we have been given the chance at eternal life. The Gospel is incredibly imperative to all lives and we must know how to interpret it before we can truly embrace it.
