Everyone in the world has a moral compass of what is right and what is wrong, even the people that are in jail because they made decisions based on their ethics that broke the law. Everyone is distinguished by the ethics they decide to adopt because not everyone shares the same ethical reasoning properties. In this essay I will be describing my ethics and the reason for which I formed those ethics.
A big influence in developing my ethics were my parents. My parents are immigrants from Mexico. They didn't have much growing up and when it came to socializing with people they were very hospitable and friendly because they felt like that's all they could offer other people in order to give back for what they receive as a form of gratitude. Private being personal and family matters. The way this differs from my public lying ethics is that. sometimes it's okay to say white lies. Protecting the family from harmful information is sometimes the best way to keep a family together. For example, my mom often times lies about certain information regarding my relatives in Mexico. She believes that if she were to inform my dad of the ongoing issues in Mexico he would not be able to focus it would distract him from work. Obviously when it comes to extreme and serious situations there is no lying. As for public lying this deals with business affairs. I had a job interview with a carpentry company once where I lied and made myself look over qualified for the job. I didn't think I would get the job, but apparently the interviewer bought all my lies and I got the job. It was my first day on the job site and I was asked to get the nail gun and nail a laid out wall section on the floor. At this point I was lost because I had never used a nail gun and I didn't know how to properly nail the 2x4s together. It didn't take long for the guy leading the crew to Realize I had no clue what I was doing and I was fired on the spot with no pay. Looking back at that I realized that I was unethical to lie to people like that. I then realized that as a project manager I wouldn't want someone to lie to me when it comes to business
Ethics is an important proponent when considering any decision. Knowing the difference between right and wrong is something everyone should know. However, the importance of ethics gets minimized when a decision that seems wrong actually has benefits. In the efforts of improving society, often ethics is violated. Sometimes in order for society to be better off as a whole, there has to be little sacrificing of ethical practices along the way to do so.
My ethics and values are developed from my religious beliefs, my associations with professionals, and self experiences. My religion installs values such as honesty, courtesy, and determination, which determine how I treat other people. My association with professionals helps me to embrace values, such as determination, personal integrity, accountability, and excellence, which are fundamental in designing my academic and professional paths. The experiences I have encountered in life have taught me to observe and embrace many ethical values, including ambition, integrity, and responsibility, which enable me to associate well with my family and other members of the society.

Engineering is one of the largest, most diverse and progressive professions. It is a highly respected profession. It guards public health and safety and is always in the best interest of society by attempting to improve the quality of life. With all professions, there are always circumstances where the image could be jeopardized. From the code of ethics, I will be discussing and analyzing article 77-7-IV. This article states: “A practitioner shall not attempt to gain an advantage over other practitioners by paying or accepting commission in securing professional engineering work”1. In other words this article relates to the term known as bribery, which is the act of persuasion which results in an advantage to one party, typically illegally or dishonestly.
Ethics is a branch of philosophy that deals with the moral principles and values that govern our behavior as human beings. It is important in the human experience that we are able to grasp the idea of our own ethical code in order to become the most sensible human beings. But in that process, can ethics be taught to us? What is ethics? Ethics are the philosophical principles of good verses bad moral behavior. It is a guideline to help people make decisions or make a judgment calls. There are two main types of ethical principles that will be discussed in this paper, and how they are applied to the decision making process. They are Deontological and Utilitarian. Deontological ethics are based on the righteousness or wrongness of the action-taking place. It does not base itself on the bad or good consequences that come from the action. Immanuel Kant introduced deontological ethics in the 18th century. Kant believed that every decision or action made by a person had to be evaluated by his or her moral duty. All human societies and communities have basic ethical principles that constitute certain moral codes. People formulated these principles and rules many centuries ago; they are fundamentals that structure human behavior and as such are included in all major religious and ethical systems. One of these basic rules is “do not steal”, something children are taught from their very early age. In our rapidly developing and dramatically changing contemporary world, ethical issues and problems are becoming ever more important and urgent. Maintaining basic ethical principles in a variety of settings and conditions requires more than accepting major moral values; it calls for courage, commitment, character, and strong and flexible reasoning and judgment. Ethical principles have been developed by different philosophical teachings and theories that analyze and structure worldview principles including, as one of their basic parts, ethical issues. In their everyday life, people often use words “good” or “bad” defining by them what they understand as ethical, or moral behavior or that which is immoral or unethical. They normally make no discrimination between ethics and morality, although the former “seems to pertain to the individual character of a person or persons, whereas morality seems to point to the relationships between human beings” (Thiroux Jacques P.20). The simple definitions of “good” and “bad”, however, turn out to be complicated and even controversial when we try to formulate consistently the principles that underpin them or define standards for judging and evaluating these norms.
In the case of Joelle, this study will significantly identify the different ethical principles that can be applied in the case. In addition to it, the study will also arrive in one ethical theory that Joelle can be applied in her situation in order for her to effectively determine what she will do and if her decision and action can be considered ethical or the right thing.
Every human being carries with them a moral code of some kind. For some people it is a way of life, and they consult with their code before making any moral decision. However, for many their personal moral code is either undefined or unclear. Perhaps these people have a code of their own that they abide to, yet fail to recognize that it exists. What I hope to uncover with this paper is my moral theory, and how I apply it in my everyday life. What one does and what one wants to do are often not compatible. Doing what one wants to do would usually bring immediate happiness, but it may not benefit one in the long run. On the other hand, doing what one should do may cause immediate unhappiness, even if it is good for oneself. The whole purpose of morality is to do the right thing just for the sake of it. On my first paper, I did not know what moral theories where; now that I know I can say that these moral theories go in accordance with my moral code. Poor ethics can damage their career, happiness, and quality of living. Not only can these actions hurt the individual who has made the bad choices, but also most often it hurts the innocent. This essay will provide two actual case studies; one of positive ethical principles and the other of poor ethical principles.
I was raised by parents who always stressed for us to be respectful and honest people. We were taught the rights and the wrongs of life. We were taught not only to conduct ourselves in this manner at home, but to also carry these beliefs into the work world and the world in general. But, I am aware that I am human and have made mistakes in my life that have questioned my ethics. Then again, there have been many experiences, personal and work related to where I struggled.
