This work aims to show the ethical issues that surround our justice systems correctional institutions to try and get a better understanding of how moral standards can be brought down in prisons. The issues in this paper will further bring into question the people who guard civilians from the most dangerous and volatile inmates who sit behind bars. The goal here is to determine the underlying issues or morality and justice that seem to be broken within the confines of this prison system. More and more goes into protecting the inmates and the institutions from the employees of the correctional field than ever before. Why is it that correctional officials drop morals and break ethical codes? This paper will focus on the deviance that officers commit, as well as, the deontological and utilitarian side of the actions taken. A look into what can be done to put an end to ethical issues will be assessed also. An Ethical Insight to Corrections Corrections have been in used throughout the centuries in many lands and countries. It is for the punishment and treatment of individuals who have committed crimes against others. The correctional side of the criminal justice system is just one part of a greater whole. Correctional officers have one of the hardest and most dangerous jobs with having a number of responsibilities. Correctional officers are the peace keepers of the prisons and institutions that hold large numbers of convicted criminals. What is to say that all officials of these institutions adhere to the firm rules and regulations of the prisons? There have been many cases where officers of corrections have gone beyond the scope of duty to break moral codes and have been faced with ethical dilemmas. The staff of correctional institutions can be just as devious as the men and women that they watch over. The connection between ethics and corrections has showed that given a good outcome, even proprietors of justice can goes beyond the scope of duty to fulfill their needs. A good way to prevent such deviance from officers in corrections would be to initiate stronger background checks and fully analyze future prospects who apply for the jobs. Another good prevention would be to structure the rules and regulations of the job to stricter repercussions for any ethical violators. In all, the corrections field will prove to be a force for the criminal justice system for many years to come and it will be a great task to limit ethical indecency with the countries prisons and institutions.
