. Professional female athletes have been getting paid less to do the same job as professional male athletes do. They should get paid the same amount as the men that play the same sport as them at the same level. Women athletes should be paid the same amount as the male athletes that play sports for any country.
The U.S. Women’s soccer team made $33 million less in the 2015 World Cup than the Germany’s Men’s soccer team did when they won the 2014 World Cup; “U.S. team would turn from the international governing body of soccer, FIFA, ...”(Mertens) “Last year, Germany, the winner of the men’s World Cup, took home $35 million.” (Mertens). The U.S. Women’s team and Germany’s Men’s team should of made the same amount because they both won their World Cup. They both had to go through many games, and rounds to get to the top. Both of them worked just as hard as the other to win the World Cup. Yeah, one team is male and one is female but why should that

Compare that team cap to men's Major League Soccer, which has a ceiling of more than $3 million, about 11 times more. The average MLS player makes $305,809 annually, according to sports analytics site sportingintelligence.” (Pramuk). If a male and a female has the same job as professional soccer athletes and goes through training which is similar to each other, they should get paid the same amount. There should be no pay gap between the male professional soccer players and professional female soccer players. They both travel to play games, they both participate in the World Cup that happens every 4 years, they both train hard, they both play their hardest on the soccer fields, etc. They do very similar things in their jobs so there should not be a pay difference between the genders in the same
The NBA generates far more revenue than the WNBA; as such, it's no surprise that the former's players are paid a higher salary. It's tempting to assume that when we account for the revenue disparity between the NBA and WNBA, the gender wage gap disappears. Unfortunately, that seems to run counter to the data. Even when we consider differences in revenue, there remains a significant gap between the wages paid to WNBA players and their NBA counterparts.
Traditionally men have dominated the world of sports however in recent year’s women’s sports have become popular and with their new found popularity, women’s sports have evolved into marketable leagues of their own. Although women’s sports took a huge leap forward, women players still don’t receive the same financial compensation for playing the same sports in the same arenas as their male counterparts. In Purse Snatching by Donna Lopiano, she points out sexism may have a huge effect on this financial discrepancy between women and men athletes. Analyzing sports economics may point to a different reason why women are receiving such a compensation disparity.
Recently a major issue for women in sports is female coaches and their salaries. The salaries of the male coaches in athletics have continuously been on the rise. And on top of that, the male coaches make 159% of the money that female coaches make. Female participation in College athletics are also on the rise. However, the majority of funding in colleges goes into the men's athletic programs.
Pay Inequality in Men and Women Sports. Soccer is one of the sports that has the biggest disparities in pay between male and female players, and has recently raised controversy over whether men and women players should receive equal pay. It is noteworthy that, due to the existence of the ninth legislature and the rapid growth of amateur league (Frick, Prinz and Winkenlmann, 2003) and the growth of women's universities, the first women's union in 1995 was established. When the women's national team was established, the men's group had existed since its establishment in 1913.
Women in sports demand quality assurance for their hard work. Sad to say this is not implemented in the sports “world” of women. “One of the theories behind this is that society doesn’t like to see women in roles that go against the norm of what a woman “should be” (Rodriguez).” Fortunately this stems from ignorance and prejudice beliefs. Especially through the media, both of which can be learned. The media can alter sports viewer’s opinions by relaying positive messages toward women’s sports. As well as sports authoritators distributing equal pay for equal work. The abundant amount of support that the media and viewers allocate will allow a higher amount of equality for women in the sports industry. This kind of support will lead women in sports salaries rise and eventually match the hardship of achievements as a minority in today’s sports
In summary, Despite opponents argue, fans want to see thunderous dunks and incredible athleticism over the lesser abilities of females, male competitions is more intense and there is more at risk, and male driven associations produce more revenue than female driven associations. It is apparent that male and females are built differently therefore they have different abilities, females go through the same types of events and often have more on the line, and female athletics aren 't given the same recognition or praise. Then, maybe one day female will receive the same amount of pay as their male counterparts. As, Vera Nazarian once implied, “A woman is human. She is not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent, more creative, or more responsible than a man. Likewise, she is never less. Equality is a given. A woman is human.”
The issue is that male athletes are getting paid a higher amount of money than female athletes. Female sport has developed significantly for 50 years. Women now play a wider range of sports and have access to playing at a professional level. Even though the sporting world is still hugely male dominated. Women and men rarely play each other, and women are paid less when compared to men who play the same form of professional sport.
Both USWNT and MNT get the fans support no doubt, but the women have been more in the spotlight on the world’s biggest stages. (DiCaro, The Cauldron.) The Women’s World Cup from June – July of 2015, reeled in more fandom. The 2015 Women’s World Cup Final, between the USWNT and Japan, a rematch from the previous World Cup in 2011, garnered a mere 25 million viewers on T.V, the most-watched in U.S Soccer History (Deitsch, SI.com). Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, are just a few of the more recognizable names right now for the USWNT, giving young women an inspiring, and possible goal of becoming a championship soccer player.
Professional sports teams provide much wanted entertainment for the world, earning more income than an average household. Each sport has a different pay structure based on revenues and goals. However, there are similarities in terms of inequality of pay between genders. Since 1972, education has had to offer equal opportunity to women and men in all programs. Title IX requires all schools that receive federal funds to maintain equal support and opportunity to all students not based on gender (Education).
The top five women are guaranteed only $72,000 each year”(1). This shows even though women and men are playing the same minimum amount of games, men are still much paid much better. The range from women's top five to men's top five in unacceptable. All ten of these players are putting in tremendous amounts of work, meanwhile only half of them are being properly compensated. Additionally Carli Lloyd explained, “If I were a male soccer player who won a World Cup for the United States, my bonus would be $390,000.
In this modern world we are grateful that people all around the world have created different kinds of sports so that we all can enjoy it with one another. Should sportswomen receive equal pay to their male counterparts? That is the question, because in this modern world we live in sports women are not being pay the same amount of money as the males do. Why is this so? Maybe because they have shorter playing time or is it because they are not interesting as males are?
Women are also struggling with equal pay for getting college scholarships and or professional sports. Male college athletes receive 36% more college scholarship dollars than female college athletes. This means they receive 176 million more scholarship dollars than female athletes every year. The United States women's national soccer team earn as little as 40% of what the men’s national team made (even after they went to the team’s third World Cup championship). Goalkeeper Hope Solo says, “The numbers speak for themselves.
At the moment, ESPN believes their audience wants to see profesional male teams highlights and games as opposed go female sports. Due to that want ESPN among other networks grants advertising and programing time to these male times so the situation becomes a win-win the sports team which is normally a male team on that is playing on the network get’s key publicity and revenue money while ESPN get’s a boost in ratings. While woman’s sports have yet to reach the height of male sports there is a way for them to get more money and
For example, in tennis men use to get more prize women the a women this recently changed in 2007. In the world cup women have came along way even more than men. Women have won a lot more games than men but, women still gets lss pay. Each women on the on the USMNT (united states soccer team) gets 99,000 a year if the team wins 20 exhibition matches on the other hand on the male soccer team they get paid $263,320 each even if they lose a match this still have not
The question can be asked why are men sports so much more popular than women sports? When people think of sports, people mostly think of things like the MLB, NFL, NHL, and MBA. But people do not think of leagues like National Professional Fastpitch, the WNBA, and the Nation Women Soccer League. Women have their own leagues but nowhere compare to the pay or anything else. In the MLB the average salary can be $545,000 (ESPN).
