Essay On Watcher

EARLY LIFE: What does the girl destined to be next in a long line of Slayers do with the first fifteen years of her life? Well, if you're Buffy Summers, and you never had a Watcher until you were called, you do what every other Los Angeles girl would do: stay pretty, shoplift lipstick, paint your nails, and think about really vapid and shallow things. Buffy excelled at it. She was even named Fiesta Queen (Hemery High's version of the May Queen). Most of her life was filled with boys and clothes, and not much thinking or homework or worrying about the future. She loved figure skating, took lessons, and even cut her hair like her ice skating idol Dorothy Hamill. Her favorite stuffed animal was a stuffed pig that she called Mr. Gordo.

CALLING AS THE SLAYER: While waiting for Tyler (her on-again, off-again boyfriend) to crawl on his hands and knees to beg her to go to the school dance with her, a very peculiar man in a suit approached her, informing her of her destiny. Truthfully, she thought Merrick, her first Watcher, was a little nuts, right up until she was in her first graveyard, fighting a guy in desperate need of a facial. It wasn't until she plunged the stake into that first vampire's heart and watched him explode that she truly believed him. She spent many nights wishing she could go back to ignorance, and as she grew as a Slayer, she also slowly lost her popularity. Unfortunately, the relationship between her parents only got worse, and when Buffy came clean to her parents about being the Slayer, they sent her to a mental hospital. She stayed there for only two weeks, and quickly realized that if she didn't mention anything about vampires - if she lied - they would let her out.

And they did.

BURNING DOWN THE GYM: "That gy...

...'s wildly outlandish plan to share power with every single potential Slayer in the world, to create an army to stop the massive arsenal of Uber-vamps lying in wait beneath the Hellmouth. But it was Spike who did most of the work. A trinket, given to Angel from Wolfram & Hart was to be worn by a champion, someone more than human but with a soul. That trinket caused the entire Hellmouth to collapse and every single uber-vamp was wiped out, and for one quiet moment, Buffy and Spike were on the same page, their hands aflame, confessing their feelings.

And then it was gone.

Spike burnt beneath the new Sunnydale High School, and the entire town cratered as the school bus with the potential raced out of town with Buffy holding on for dear life on top of it. Staring down into the chasm, Dawn asked Buffy what she planned to do, since she wasn't the only Chosen One anymore.
