The Yalta Conference From the days of February 4th-11th in 1945, three major Allied leaders consisting of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin all met for a very important meeting. What kind of a meeting could bring these three political figures together into one room? This specific meeting was known as the Yalta Conference, which was held at Yalta in Crimea (Britannica, Yalta Conference). In the yalta conference, the leaders of three very influential nations consisting of the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union met to plot the downfall and occupation of Nazi Germany. Nazi Germany spanned throughout the years of 1933-1945, ruled by vicious dictator, Adolph Hitler. With radical views on anti-semitism and German nationalism, Hitler will forever go down in history as one of the most ruthless villains up to date. Although looked down upon now, Hitler was quite persuasive with his words, thus convincing German citizens to support his extreme views. This led Nazi Germany to possess a great deal of power. As World War Two was nearing an end, Roosevelt and Churchill approached Stalin to discuss the conditions in which the Soviet Union would enter war against Japan (History.state.gov, The Yalta Conference, 1945). In exchange for the Soviet Union’s participation, they would be given a sphere of influence in parts of manchuria. Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin agreed that Germany should take part in some reparations payments, however not all. Britain and the U.S. agreed that countries neighboring the Soviet Union should be friendly, as the Soviets were to allow free elections in territories freed from Nazi Germany.
