Canada and the United States of America have a very healthy relationship today and throughout history. These two countries are in a “happy marriage” meaning they both work together and have prominent economic ties. For many reasons, their relations are healthy, but there are 3 reasons that stand out. This was the start of the immense trading world between Canada and the USA. Before World War I, Canada and the United States were not as closely related in trading. At that time, the USA had 39.8 million people, about 10 times the amount of people in Canada which was only 3.7 million . Canada would export fisheries, lumber and agricultural products while from the USA, Canada would import manufactured products. However, Britain was Canada’s main trading ally before WW1 as Canada was still under the British rule. Canada’s economy along with the United States’ started to plummet with the rise of tariffs and debt which ultimately led to The Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression in 1929 until 1939. Their values are similar in terms of government, diversity and human rights. In both countries, the governments are run democratically. The people of the country vote for their leader rather than the leader be appointed by themselves like a dictator. Both countries are civil with each other because both the people and the governments believe in democracy over communism or fascism. Therefore, we get along in a way that we have parallel views about how our countries are to be run in peace and equality. Also, Canada and the United States bond over the diverse populations we have and the cultural influences we have endorsed over the years. In Canada, more than 200 languages were reported in the 2011 Census of Population as a home language or mother tongue . Likewise, there are about 14 million households in the United States which English is not spoken as a first language . With this variety of languages and cultures, Canada and the USA share the same inclusive values and therefore develop a healthy relationship. Additionally, these two countries both believe that all human beings deserves rights and freedoms with no exclusions or exceptions. Prior to the World War 1, United States of America was just a developed country, which was lagged behind other countries, such as, Britain, France, and Germany, with a large land and ample natural resources. However, as the World War 1 was caused, USA was required to produce war materials by France and Britain and exported to those countries. Hence, USA gained a huge amount of money and technical skills, and so the country has grown into one of the world’s economic powers. As a result, USA could invest in Canada in order to get raw materials for its secondary industries. However, USA’s investments in 1920s brought more benefits to USA itself than to Canada. There are three major reasons for the statement. First, since branch plants were established, Canadian own businesses lost their opportunities. In addition, the ultimate purpose of USA’s investments in primary industries was to enhance USA’s secondary industries. Britain and France wanted to make Germany hurt, in return from all the losses it’s caused them, like death of loved ones and damaged property. Before the war, Canada’s most important sector in its economy was agriculture. However, this was changing drastically after and during the war as industry began to take over as being more important. Canadian production of war material, food supplies, and raw materials had been crucial during the war. After the war, it was only natural that big investments were being made in mining, production, transportation, and services industries. Canadian cities were becoming very important contributors to the economy. This was also bringing in waves of post-war immigration, the backbone of Canada’s multicultural society we know today.

It was a point in time where thousands of people lost their jobs, and even lost their homes because of the depressed economy. Business was booming in the early 1920s, but when companies tried to expand, and therefore issued stocks, the economy was thrown off. Some investors sold their stocks for high prices, and as a result, everyone else followed. With less of a demand, stock prices became fractions of what they used to be, and on October 29, 1929, the New York Stock Exchange collapsed, followed by the Toronto and Montreal Stock exchanges. This collapse of the stock markets caused a depression like which the world had never seen before. It was important for governments to find methods to deal with the depression, but the Canadian government wasn't very successful in its attempts to deal with the Great Depression.

The living standards were improving remarkably. Before the First World War, the American stock market was small and a relatively unimportant part of Canada’s economy. This suddenly changed bringing the onset of the great depression in the late 1920’s when the economy took a severe and devastating turn; affecting the lives of Canadians for nearly a decade.
In conclusion, Canada was influenced throughout the 1920's by America, that by 1929 Canada became very similar to America in social trends, economics and produce. But has this stopped in modern day era? Canada continues to be heavily influenced by the amount of American products and media outpouring into Canada. Canada has made attempts throughout time to impede the onslaught of American invasion but American invasion is seen on a huge global scale. Both the U.S. and Canada have important holidays that are celebrated nationally. Of course both countries would celebrate the days that their countries were born, July 1st, 1867 is when Canada’s constitution was signed. And the United States’ Independence was declared on July 4th 1776. They both celebrate the days in similar ways, like barbeques, parades, fireworks, concerts, etc. Another holiday they both celebrate nationally is Christmas. Canada has become a superior nation thru, perseverance, courage and even care as they persevered thru many dark battles, and made sure they all came thru together as a unit other than individuals. Their courage made there fighting 100% stronger as they wouldn’t back down to any task and they weren’t afraid to lose their life to help a fellow friend and country out. Care played a major aspect in each Canadian heart. There cared about Britain so they weren’t to go help them when they declared war, they helped other troops with their emotional problems and lastly they even cared a little about there enemies as they are the same person, however the only thing separating them is there culture. Currently, Canada remains the world’s second largest country, full of vast and rich resources from all corners of the nation. None of the accomplishments and achievements that Canada has made to date would have been possible without Confederation. Without intense pressure from the Americans, and without the common goal that a few men shared of unifying a country, Canada would not be the strong, free, independent and united nation that it is today.

Media, American artists, economic dependence, American propaganda and political pressure from the United States is making Canada too Americanized.
