The American Civil War, also known as the War Between the States, was a four-year war between the years of 1861 and 1865 between the United States and the eleven Southern states that seceded from the Union and formed the Confederate States of America. There were many many causes of the American Civil War, such as the Industrial Revolution, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the election of Abraham Lincoln that resulted in the effects of Reconstruction and Jim Crow Laws that are still relevant in the United States today.
With the Industrial Revolution in full swing, the northern states took advantage of the special-purpose machinery, factories and mass production and the undeniable profit that came from these new resources. With these newly gained opportunities, many immigrants poured into the cities looking to acquire wealth. This greatly increased the North's population, giving them leverage over the south in terms of political power. This caused the south to worry about whether or not they would have enough power or votes to maintain their influence in government
