For my chosen career I picked to be a plastic surgeon. I feel I am very prepared for this lifestyle and have the will to work as long as I need to when it comes to completing a job. As a plastic surgeon, you work long hours alone, but help people get a new start in their life. Difficult surgeries are usual, so are difficult decisions during the surgeries. They perform surgeries that can have a wide range: from skin grafts, to nose jobs, to restoring the way joints and muscles work. They will always perform surgeries on human beings, they will also always try to improve the way people look. The perform both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. After this they must enter medical school. Medical school is very competitive because of the cost of training a doctor. 5-6 years of residency is also required to be a plastic surgeon. Once this is all completed, you then need to be worried about being hired, or opening a private practice. The beginning median and top salary in the chosen career is between 150,000 and 500,000. The beginning salary is for staff plastic surgery. This is the start of being a plastic surgeon and your salary is between 150,000- 450,000. The highest level for being a plastic surgeon is called the chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery. The yearly salary is between 350,000- 500,000. The beginning plastic surgeon salary is actually the perfect amount of money, if anything it is actually a little bit too much. After a thousand dollar apartment a month and all of the other hobbies or things I have to pay for monthly, it’s just too much. However, I plan on saving up my money in case I plan on, unexpectedly, having a family. You also need to be determined to finish something, especially if you get a helpless patient. You need to be willing to give up time as well. You have to expect surgeries to run overtime especially when they are more difficult than other patients. This job is very difficult but pays you back millions in physiological rewards. There are multiple things that I can start doing today to help me be prepared for this career. Some including online- learning, and reading books and magazines about being a plastic surgeon, you cannot possibly learn everything about being a plastic surgeon by being a shadow because sometimes these stress filled humans (everyone makes mistakes) will leave information out. Other things that I could do is take classes and/or join clubs that will teach what it is like to live as a plastic surgeon. Even though shadowing a plastic surgeon is a complicated task to arrange, it is an amazing experience to go through because you’re really putting yourself in the plastic surgeon’s shoes. Volunteer work and summer jobs could also be great for learning about human anatomy, especially if you volunteer because if you don’t like the experience or career, you could always just stop volunteering, there is no need to worry about a weekly check.
