Obesity in America is a growing issue that plagues many people and families. it is seen as an uncontrollable ailment that many people in the world face. Obesity is treated as a disease rather than a consequence of one's actions and lifestyle choices. This undoubtedly wrong and a failure on anyone who supports them. There is no such thing as fat shaming, it is simply people who want to live gluttonous lifestyles and not face social consequences, then being faced with unexpected conviction for being emotionally and mentally weak.

Obesity can break up families because they cannot handle the responsibility of taking care of that certain family member. The simple fact is that people can fix this by simply making it an unacceptable act of ignorance or gluttony. many of these people receive government handouts for “disability” due to a simple choice this person has made in their life while their are many other people who need it much more than they do and are at least making an effort in life.
In conclusion, obesity in not a chronic illness and should never be treated as such. Obesity is a huge problem that needs to be resolved because it affects all people, unlike most issues. People of every gender, every age, and every race are at risk of being obese. Obesity rates in America have nearly doubled within the last twenty years. Something must be done not only to prevent obesity rates continuous rising, but also to dramatically increase the percentage of obese people in America altogether.

Obesity has been a health problem ever since infectious disease had began in the first half of the 20th Century. The person with obesity is not the only person who is affected by their disease. In the case of childhood obesity, It can affect the parents because they might be the cause of the child’s issues. It can also lead to many different health problems such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory problems, and it can also even lead to death. Since the 1960?s obesity in America has more than tripled regardless of sex or race. Today 30.5 percent, or 69 million, American Adults are considered obese (?AOA Fact Sheets? np). In addition, 13 percent of children aged 6-11 years old are considered overweight, and well on their way to becoming obese. Obesity causes over 300,000 deaths a year and costs the country $117 billion dollars, prompting health care providers and the government to label it an epidemic (?Overweight and Obesity?? np).
Obesity in the United States continues growing alarmingly. Approximately 66 % of adults and 33 % of children and teenagers in the US are overweight. Obesity is the result of fat accumulated over time due to the lack of a balanced diet and exercise. An adult with a BMI (body mass index) higher than thirty percent is considered obese (Whitney & Rolfes, 2011, pg. 271).
Unfortunately, obesity is a battle that the citizens of the United States are fighting. Being fat is one of the most stigmatizing attributes in America. One cannot live through a single day without encountering numerous forms of fat prejudice in magazines, on television, in the streets, and even in homes. Erving Goffman’s Stigma delineates three types of stigma: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal stigma of race, nation and religion (4). According to Goffman’s definition, being fat is an abomination of the body. Being fat is a highly visible stigma, unlike the stigma of being queer which does not have an outward appearance. According to research in Women’s Conflicts About Eating and Sexuality, "Fat oppression, the fear and hatred of fat people, remains one of the few ‘acceptable’ prejudices still held by otherwise progressive persons" (Meadow 132). In fact, people are obsessed with noticing fat, not getting fat, and pointing out to people that they are fat without hesitation. Unlike other stigmas, fat people are blamed for their condition. Society believes that if fat people really wanted to they could just lose weight and be permanently thin. Body-shaming can have a negative impact on a person's physical and mental health. They can end up with so many body issues. As teenagers, they can become self-conscious and have self-esteem issues. Mentally it may make the person feel ashamed and like there is something wrong with them (Loughlin, 2017). People also need to realize that skinny shaming is just as hurtful as fat shaming (Gies, 2017). Also, some skinny people can’t help that they are naturally thin it’s in their genetics. For example, I was born with a thin body type and eat whatever I want. It is very difficult for me to gain weight no matter how hard I try.
