Many people in America have a diet consisting of food that they do not know anything about. People with an unhealthy diet often become obese or overweight because they do not fully understand what is in the food they eat or how unhealthy it is while they are consuming it. The government then has to step in and create laws to help maintain healthy diets and to notify people of what is in the food they eat. The government should continue to regulate the diets of Americans because most of them do not want a change, don't know what they are consuming, and so that the government can help to stop obesity in the United States.

The government is taking steps to decrease obesity rates and make people healthier. There is a large percent of America that is considered obese, from elementary school kids to working adults all over America. “With at least two-thirds of American adults now considered overweight or obese - including more than half of New York adults and nearly 40% of the city’s public elementary and middle school students” (Park). This helps show that obesity an ongoing and continues problem that is constantly increasing. Many of the people who are considered obese do not know how many calories they are putting into their body and this is a leading cause of the obesity epidemic. “A 20-oz. serving size of Coke contains 240 calories, compared with 200 in 16-oz. size; for people who drink a soda a day, that adds up to 14,600 calories a year, or about 70 Hershey chocolate bars” (Park). An incredible amount of Americans do not know how fast the calories add up. The government is trying to notify people of the alarming amount of calories each person may consume.
