We all know that there’s a border between Mexico and America but, do we all know how and why we actually have that? Throughout these few weeks, we learned about the causes and effects of when cultures collide. Which, might I add, had different causes and effects for every tribe/culture that got mixed up. When cultures collide, there’s war, trading, or progress.

War and fighting aren’t any surprising events when cultures collide. The Mexican American war is a phenomenal example of fighting when cultures collide. The Mexicans didn’t like how the Americans could do whatever they want and take whatever they want. We also learned about Lewis & Clark, and the border of Mexico, which are two things that everybody knows of, but not really know about. Lewis and Clark are legendary, but do you actually know for what? It’s for being very adventurous helpers to Thomas Jefferson and his citizens. When Thomas Jefferson first bought the land of the Louisiana Purchase, he wanted to know all the geographic details about the land. They used it to make a map for all of America. Also, Jefferson asked them to find every source of water that they could. This helped them find trade routes, Native lands, and other things that would be useful to the groups that would travel west. Moreover, he Progress Painting isn’t a very popular painting but, it has a lot of meaning and detail to how cultures collide. The Progress Painting looks like an angel or a flying lady bringing Americans somewhere while taking down all the darkness and violence. But, it actually represents how that “angel” was getting rid of the violence and dead vibes to bring joyfulness and hope. It shows that every piece of land that she’s past had lit up and denied negativity. Likewise, I know many Mexicans who would visit their country and hometown over school break and they would talk about the border. The people who pass the border really know nothing about it.
