The main issue with medical billing and coding is that it is always changing, and can be complicated to stay caught up on all the new changes. I agree with this completely when I first started this program I learned about the ICD-9 system and it was complicated and when I finally started to understand it, I had to learn the new ICD-10 system which was a lot more complicated, and it completely through me off I no longer felt as if I understood what I was doing, and it made it very frustrating. When you are working in medical billing and coding you have to stay up to date on all the changes, by not doing so it can cause for the coder to mess up patience bills and can cause the physicians to mess up the medical records. ICD-10 has been said to be more complicated and anyone working in the medical field that has to deal with coding such as physicians and coders have to be trained in learning the new system and it isn't as easy as just reading a textbook. When a new coding system is released everything from the hardware and software used in medical billing and coding has to be updated, new coding books have to be sent out to all medical offices, and all the physicians and coders have to learn the new system, and the new codes. If a coder messes up on the patience information it can cause financial issues for the patient and alot of unneeded problems. With all the changes that are constantly being made to the coding system can be very overwhelming and can put coders at higher risk of making mistakes. Many coders and physicians feel the same way, however those who keep making the changes believe it is for the best and makes things
