Maturity, the quality of behaving mentally and emotionally like an adult. How to Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel placed in a town called Maycomb which follows the life of Scout Finch, her brother Jem and their father Atticus who face a dependant trial of a young black man, Tom Robinson who is accused of raping a white women. Throughout the novel it reveals the maturing and life lessons to understand society and how the world works, It shows how many children develop in unique ways and have a understanding to naivete at the time of their childhood because they have not gone through many of the experiences in their life yet. In the beginning Scout's childhood innocence is shown through the first day of school because she is known to act without thinking. For example, on the first day of attending to school she get criticized for knowing how to read and write by Miss. Caroline.Miss. Caroline thinks its best if she wasn’t taught by her father Atticus but Scout does not agree. Without a doubt Scout begins to cause a scene with her teacher resulting to her getting in trouble. As Scout tells Atticus what happened he explains "if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-"(Lee 30).By this telling scout to put herself in their shoes and think about what their feeling. This helps in the development in Scouts maturity as she takes these words into consideration and finally feels empathy towards Mayella Ewell's during the Tom Robinson trial.“As Tom Robinson gave his testimony, it came to me that Mayella Ewell must have been the loneliest person in the world. She was even lonelier than Boo Radley, who had not been out of the house in twenty-five years.(Lee 27) Scout awareness of the conditions on Mayella's life shows that she is growing and learned the skill of respecting another person's situation.
