Living with Mass Media
In much of the world, mass media is flourishing. Through the development of science and technology, mass media are diversified media technology that was intended to reach a large of the audience by mass communication, and people are surrounded by all kinds of information. Mass media is an important and helpful tool in everyday life, some of which encourage people to be ourselves and to purchase objects recommend to us. In the article “Boycott America’s Media: Take Back Your thinking skills”, the author believed that the mass media has corrupted American culture by robbing use of our ability to discern excellence, to make the moral judgment, and to appreciate our own self-worth. And the author indicated that we should boycott all the Medias carrying advertisements we encountered in our life is not right for some reasons. In our modern life, various mass media and different corners of our life are fulfilled worth overwhelming advertising. I have to admit that I dislike the advertisement too, but that cannot be the excuse that I reject all media. In the article, Higashi listed all the things that he boycotted concerning to the advertisement. However, Advertising brings diverse information that makes our lives much easier and more efficient. Advertising can provide various products information, and it helps us to understand products better. Advertising is not only a good assistant while shopping, but also raises the living standards of the people. People can know latest products, facilities and equipment through advertising, Advertising also entices people to buy more stuff, increase sales and enhance economic benefits. We are living in a society, we need to keep up with the development of the society. However, the boycott of the American media the author listed is just the way we acknowledge the world, so we should not boycott
