The Work of Lev Vygotsky Vygotsky was a soviet psychologist from 1896-1934. He mainly contributed in the developmental psychology by proposing on theory that connects to the children development. He proposed a theory on the development or higher cognitive functions especially in the children, which he saw the emergence of some reasoning form the practical activities that children are participating in the social environment, especially through playing (Jones, & Reynolds, 1992). He has had many arguments in aligning to reasoning and cognitive development, the first in the earlier stages being the argument that, reasoning development is mediated by the symbols and signs that a person sees in everyday life. People believe that playing only give pleasure the children, and therefore, have always define playing as any activity that children indulge into to give them pleasure. However, this is not the case and the definition can be termed as very inaccurate according to Vygotsky, even though it has been the common belief and almost every human being associate playing with pleasure. Vygotsky explained that there are much more activities that can pleasurable to the children more that playing and therefore, the children would prefer to indulge in those activities that playing giving and example with suckling a pacifier. Secondly, there games that children play whose activities has less pleasure or does not provide pleasure to the children at all, and there are others that have two sided outcomes and only one of the sides is pleasurable. In these games when the children indulge in them and get the unpleasant result it cannot be said that the game was played without pleasure (Jones, & Reynolds, 1992). However, the things that interest toddlers are greatly dependent on the social cultural activities the child has been exposed since birthday (Vygotsky, & Cole, 1978). Therefore, explaining why Vygotsky 's theories give special allegiance to social interaction between children and the environment to be key in cognition development, confirming the fact that community have major role in development of children and how they come on in making the central part behaviors and cognitive actions. This theory of cognitive approach was solely developed Vygotsky. At this time when Vygotsky was developing these theories, Jean Piaget was also developing another theory of cognition.
