Although Canadians faced many struggles during this decade, the 1920s remained a time of reconstruction, revision, and rapid growth across Canada. Progress in women’s rights, advancements in technology, and the rise of Canada’s economy all helped make the 20s roar. It was a significant time for the mental, technological, and physical growth of our country; therefore the struggles of Canadians during this period are far outweighed by the advancements that made the 20s roar. The first advancement that made the 20s roar was the improvement of women’s rights and roles. This is best exemplified by the Persons Case, which was decided in 1929. Many inventions we still use to this day were invented or became popular during this era, such as radios, movies, and cars. These groundbreaking inventions were very new and exciting for Canadians and gave them more ways to enjoy themselves. There were also many other, more practical inventions created, that helped people do their jobs quicker and more efficiently. This gives people more time to relax, enjoy life, and do things that they might not necessarily have time to do otherwise. Finally, the inventions of the 1920s made them roar because they gave people ways to spend time with each other. The inventions of the 1920s had many different purposes, and one big one was to entertain. The 1920s developed many types of entertainment, such as Vaudeville shows, silent movies, radios, and nightclubs. These sources of entertainment were often enjoyed in groups: families often went to Vaudeville shows together, and young friends would meet up at nightclubs to dance and spend time together. This proves the 1920s roared because all of these inventions not only helped Canadians be able to use their time more efficiently, but also brought them closer together, and created a more enjoyable
