Laws for environmental preservation The government has implemented new policies that have comprehensive rules to try to prevent the pollution to the environment. The State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) is in charge of coming up with laws. After the laws are drawn up, they await approval from the State Council. The purpose of SEPA is to circulate environmental laws and rules, gather information and statistics as well as contribute guidance on environmental problems. The Chinese government have propose the Cleaner Production Promotion Law in June 2002 to kick start demonstration plans for the management of pollution in major urban areas. Some areas are also deemed as priority regions such as certain river valleys. Laws on the conservation of energy While the country has to continue to develop and progress its economy, they must also preserve the environment and reduce pollution as much as possible. In order to prevent the exorbitant development of industries that use excessive amounts of energy and contribute a lot to the pollution of the environment, the authorities urge that the utility of land has to decrease. The authorities also has to appoint environmental requirements for upcoming projects while trying to curb the fast development of industries that consume too much energy. China plans to constrain these industries by modifying the export reimbursement, and bringing in more exports tax and lowering the limit on exporting. The chinese government has implemented a scheme to observe the emission of contaminants. However, the supervising system is not foolproof.. However, the controversial dam could also prove to be an environmental disaster, as there have been concerns raised regarding the accumulation of toxic materials and other pollutants from industrial sites that will be inundated after construction of the dam. The use of hydropower (and the dam) can also lead to other social costs such as the displacement of people and impact on fisheries. By 2025, the use of nuclear energy to generate electricity is expected to increase about 3% from the current percentage of a little over 1. If we can find a way to dispose of and properly handle nuclear waste, nuclear power can prove to be a very promising alternative energy source in future.
