Just a few years ago, many people didn’t use Facebook to share their pictures or statuses, but now, there are over 600 million users on Facebook worldwide. Social networking has been affecting Americans for a very long time. Ever since the creation of the internet, many social networking sites were created which began to affect us. Social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and AOL had made the biggest impact on Americans. All these websites lead to an increase in cyber bullying. With all this in mind, social networking has been influencing society as a whole.
In the early 1900’s many different types of computers and parts to a computer were invented. For example, in 1936, Konrad Zuse made the first freely programmable computer. Seven years later, John Atanasoff & Clifford Berry invented the ABC Computer. Later on, in 1962, Steven Russell & MIT created the first computer game “Spacewar Computer Game”. Two years later, Douglas Engelbart was the one to invent the computer mouse and windows. This was a major invention because now many people were able to use the computer easily and in that time period, faster.
From inventions of different parts of the computer; many people began to invent the internet and different social networking sites. In 1969, CompuServe was the first major Internet service provider in the United States. In 1971, Ray Tomlinson was the first person to invent and send an email. Ray decided to create “email” because “it seemed like a neat idea.” He started to try out different websites to get the right program to send an email. He used the SNDMSG program (a single-computer electronic mail program from the early 1960s for time-sharing operating systems) so that he could try to send an email to any...

Also, in the “Social Networking ProCon.org” it says “gangs use the sites to recruit younger members, coordinate violent crimes, and threaten other gangs…stalkers gaining information about a victim’s whereabouts from posts, photos, or location tagging services. This shows that social media could be very dangerous because many people could start looking through your information and stalk you. This is how social networking sites could be very negative.
In sum, social networking is affecting American society because it affects children with their education grades, a life-death situation (cyber bullying), and adults in general with their work, and getting new information all over the internet.
