For this strategy, we are using Twitter, Facebook, Blog, and Youtube with updated information about the current campaign. The main group of targetted audiences are technologically savvy users which are actively searching for new information through social media. We assume that this strategy can be used to reach the main targetted audiences. The second strategies are running awareness fair for three days in Sunway University. This strategy is used to reach more targetted audiences more generally. The next strategy is attracting the media to report about this campaign by having viral video contest. Media needs newsworthy information, and this campaign needs publicity. Tim McGraw’s “Highway Don’t Care” is an unorthodox approach to educating the public about the dangers of distracted driving as opposed to the traditional classes or public service announcements. The music video for Tim McGraw's song, “Highway Don't Care”, can persuade the public to protect themselves against the dangers of driving while otherwise being preoccupied, and is effective in doing so. Education and consciousness about distracted driving can help the public obtain protection against the dangers of driving while otherwise being preoccupied. Distracted driving encompasses any activity that could redirect a person’s attention away from the primary focus of driving (Distracted Driving). Any type of distraction while driving ...
In Syracuse, N.Y., there have been strict laws against handheld cellphone use and texting and driving, and they have been extremely effective (Copeland, 1). Law enforcement saw over 70% of texting driving put to a halt. Transportation secretary Ray LaHood said, “Over half a million people are said to be injured, and thousands more are killed in distracted driving accidents” (Copeland, 1).Another very effective campaign that will probably soon be known world-wide is “Phone in one hand, Ticket in the other”(Copeland, 1). Most people in todays world would be familiar with the “click it or ticket” phrase that has allowed people to be reminded to put on their seat belt. Just as this campaign reminds people to wear a seat belt, the “Phone in one hand, Ticket in the other” is designed to remind drivers that it is far too dangerous to be interacting with your phone while driving (Copeland, 1).
There are approximately 5,400 deaths per year that are linked to distracted driving, and thousands more were injured. (U.S. Department of Labor). Those fatalities are our neighbors, close friends, and even family. How can we prevent this from being so prominent? How can we make the roads a safe place to be again? These questions have many different answers, but many prove to be un-effective. I believe that the best and only way to resolve this issue is to implement tougher laws on cell-phone use in vehicles, and educate our youth to the best of our abilities on the dangers of distracted driving.
The several effects of distracted driving are deadly. Andrew Lavallee points out that “texting while driving is unsafe. Not only are a driver’s eyes off the road, one or both hands are off the wheel.” “We think it is incompatible with safe driving” (qtd. in Lavallee). “Study upon study showed that talking on a cellphone was far more dangerous than she’d realized – that a driver on a phone had the same reaction speed as someone legally intoxicated, that those talking on a phone behind the wheel are four times as likely to crash” (qtd. in Hanes). Stephanie Hanes also mentions that, “Unlike a conversation with a passenger, the electronic conversation takes a driver into a virtual space away from the road.” Subsequently, this causes severe problems and deadly

I rear ended a car due to the action of distracted driving. Distractions while driving can include anything from the use of social media on a cellular phone, messing with a navigation system, brushing one's hair, speaking to the passengers, or eating a big mac. In my situation, I was toying with the music in my car. I was dissatisfied with the current song so I decided to switch it up. I was at a stoplight so at the time I thought it would be okay for me to change the song. But within the timespan of a blink of an eye, my foot went off the brake and I rear-ended the car in front of me. I was following the car way too closely so by the time I realized my foot had wavered I already made a mark on the car ahead of me. I wanted to fist bump to
David Hosansky states that the use of cell phones and texting should not be allowed while driving. The increased uses of cell phones and texting while driving has become the center of safety conversations. In fact, there are more than 5,000 deaths related to the use of cell phones and texting while driving over the last decade. Even if laws were put in place it is believed that motorists would still find it hard to put down their phones down. Hosansky also gave an example on the hazards of texting while driving, especially among young drivers. There are very few states that have implemented laws restricting the use of cell phones or texting while driving. David Hosansky is a freelance writer in the Denver area. This article seems to have been written for the general public and thought to be informative. I found this especially helpful and informative in finding this is not just a local problem.
Each day in the United States, over 8 people are killed and 1,161 injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver (Distracted Driving). There are a few different
When you hear that there has been an accident caused by a distracted driver, what comes to mind? There are many distractions when someone is driving whether that is a cell phone, a pet, passengers, or even people outside of the car. These are only some of the distractions that people admit to facing. Distracted driving is one of the biggest problems we face and when someone is distracted it means they are not paying attention to the road. If they are not focused on the road, then they can get into an accident which could cause serious injuries or even death to themselves or others.
We as a society need to all take responsibility when we are on the road and avoid the many temptations and distractions surrounding us. Distracted driving is dangerous plain and simple. Some may be willing to take the risk because they have never had an accident while behind the wheel. But it’s
I happen to be very tech-savvy and know that some of the most popular phone applications being used among teenagers include YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter. All these applications require audiovisual attention and using them while driving significantly reduces a driver’s ability to observe all the important road rules and regulations. Based on multiple research initiatives, it has been established that it takes about 4.6 seconds to read a text, and driving at 30 miles per hour translates to seventy yards, just a few yards shorter than a football field. Imagine the number of things that could go wrong during that time, for instance not seeing an incoming vehicle, swerving into a curb, hitting a pedestrian or missing a traffic light. The consequences are endless, but one thing that is guaranteed is the potential of causing harm to oneself and others.
One of the dangers of texting while driving at the same time is the attention it takes away from the road. A driver, who is focused on looking at their phone, is not paying enough attention to other cars or what is happening around them. Something as simple as a car stopping in front of them can cause serious damage to the driver and to the other car. “Texting” while driving is the act of composing, sending, or reading text messages, email, or making other similar use of the internet on a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle, such as an automobile, truck, or train (Reuters). Many people and authorities have viewed it as a dangerous practice. It is on occasion like this, where familiarity with the road and surrounding will not make it easier for the driver to look at their cell phone. The probabilities of drivers texting on the cell phone and getting into accidents are only getting higher. Cell phone use while driving accounts for a major cause of
When driving reality is that anything can happen at any given point. Accidents sadly occur all the time and distraction is something happens to anyone, we live such fast paced life that we barely have time for
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
