Ahhh! The hair raising sound of a turbo whistle with the deep hum of a diesel engine just sends a completely different type of excitement throughout my body. The diesel engine is one of the most powerful and durable engines out there and it powers much of the world’s buses and big trucks. The diesel engine is becoming more popular on smaller trucks and even some cars because of its fuel efficiency and durability. Diesel mechanics also known diesel engine specialists, repair and maintain diesel engines that are in buses, trains, trucks, cars, and heavy machinery. Most diesel mechanics repair trains, semis, cranes, bulldozers, and other vehicles like that, but very few actually become certified to work on passenger vehicle diesel engines. The mechanics must be flexible to adapt with customers’ needs and wants, also they have to constantly update their knowledge on new products and technology. The diesel engines are getting more and more complex by the day with all the new regulations and technology used to control how the engine works and what it can do. Mechanics usually work as a team or have a helper when doing major repairs. Diesel technicians usually work indoors, although they occasionally make repairs to vehicles on the road or in the field. The mechanics will lift heavy tools and parts, handle greasy and dirty parts, and stand or lie in awkward positions to repair vehicles and equipment. Minor cuts, burns, bruises, etc. are common, although serious injury can occur when the proper safety procedures are not taken.
