Researching jobs will also tell you the job description such as job duties and what your day would consist of. Another good reason to do this is to find out the salary and job outlook. I chose commercial pilot and diesel mechanic. I chose these two because I really like flying and want to learn more about becoming an diesel mechanic. A typical day for a commercial pilot is to inspect the airplane for leaks and etc. A pilot also needs to test the engines before taking off. A typical day as a diesel mechanic is to diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul buses and trucks, or maintain and repair any type of diesel engines. Other job duties you would have to perform are small like changing fluids or tires. Another thing that you would have to do is determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about the problem. If the shop is not busy you could have to control operations of equipment or systems. The skills needed to be a diesel mechanic is knowing your way around a diesel engine. Another skill that will be very helpful is knowing how to use a computer for diagnostics and to figure out the problem. Also knowing how to change oil and order parts that you will need to replace. Another skill needed is to know how to use the proper tools safely. Also you need to know how to drive a dump truck or semi. The schooling and training needed to become a diesel mechanic is to go to college for two years to learn more about diesel mechanics. A good college to attend in Ohio University of Northwestern Ohio.
