Together with reading, writing and arithmetic, computer literacy has become one of the hallmarks of an educated person. Discuss.
It is capital before getting in the deep of the subject, to define and understand some terms like an educated person, computer literacy.
According to the website [www.cdtl.nus.edu],an educated person is one who has undergone a process of learning that results in enhanced mental capability to function effectively in familiar and novel situations in personal and intellectual life. In order to function effectively in such situations, one needs to acquire:
a. general information (knowledge),
b. general thinking abilities involved in knowledge building and knowledge criticising,
c. general language abilities needed for

the mind set that facilitates knowledge and general language abilities.
As seen above, these are the ingredients which show that a person is " being educated". If this description is accepted, it monitors that educational programs should be designed in a way to exploit the probability of students realising these goals in a setting panel. [www.cdtl.nus.edu.sg];
The Cambridge dictionary defines an educated person as “ the one who has learned a lot at school or at university and has a good level of knowledge”.
A computer literate is not necessarily an educated person and an educated person is not necessarily a computer literate. Nowadays, it is obvious that science is progressing and so, technology. Few things can be done without the use of computer.
What then is a computer literacy?
A more useful definition from (http://www.computerliteracyusa.com/) is:
“Computer literacy is an understanding of the concepts, terminology and operations that relate to general computer use. It is the essential knowledge needed to function independently with a computer. This functionality includes being able to solve and avoid problems, adapt to new situations, keep information organised and communicate effectively with other computer literate people.

It also provides the speed , convenience and security.
Communication is another important aspect of computing and has become very easy, thanks to the internet and email. The computer communicates using telephone lines and modems . By email, messages are sent to anyone in any part of the world in seconds , whereas if a letter is sent , it will be received in a few days . In short, thanks to the Internet the earth has become a global village and it serves primarily to save time. This would not be possible without computers . Internet helps to find information on all topics( although everything is not genuine) . This is the easiest and fastest way to search .
The computer has now become an integral part of corporate life. Users can make business transactions easily and accurately and keep track of all profits and losses. Today computers can be found in all stores , supermarkets , restaurants , offices, etc. ... Special software is used to calculate the heavy bills in seconds . You can buy and sell things online , bills and taxes can be paid online and can also predict the future of business using artificial intelligence software. It also plays a very important role in the stock
Being educated can help people earn their living and be more responsible. Nowadays, education level is one of the most important requirements and comparative advantage for searching a job. The people who finish higher education, they would have more opportunity. Just like the author Wes’s father, “he finally had the chance to host his own public affairs show. And he’d hired a new writing assistant. Her name was Joy.”(12) After graduate from Bard College, his father gained more opportunities to realize his dream, being on television. Studying in college, we can learn the professional skill and know more about the
...g well-educated can be anyone having a wealth of knowledge in any area in education or life.
Education, we hear that word quite frequently but what does it mean? Miriam Webster’s Dictionary defines education as “the knowledge and development resulting from an educational process”. Everyone needs some education to be a success in life. The amount and types of education can vary but we all need the basics of reading, writing and math to be successful in life, and to be professional in the workplace. I see education as a step to success in the future. Education ideally results in effective communication, and a successful professional life. We have alternate ways of learning, and new things to learn as a result of technology.
Education means a variety of things to any individual because it is the route to fulfilling dreams that one would not have otherwise been able to believe was possible. Just as food provides nourishment to the stomach, happiness satisfaction to the soul, education is the dietary supplement to the brain. Education endows one with the strength and motivation to have a dream, as a consequence one is able to lead a life filled with happiness. One is able to have contentment because with the attainment of an educated mind they are cognizant that they can achieve all of what they have ever imagined. As children we are taught to dream what we want to become and as an adolescent, we are able to live to become just as what we have imagined. The very essence of what we seek to become is educated in a sense because we can only become a step closer to making our reality come into existence without beginning with education.
Education is one of the most important heritage that a father can give to his son. Education is the greatest inheritance a parent can leave to the son, being educated is not to acquire knowledge but more than that it be lack of ignorance. Someone once said that “I do not read for more intelligence but rather to be less ignorant”, these words have a world between them, because many people study for a degree not for gain knowledge. Education can be defined as the wealth of knowledge acquired by an individual that would be a common way to define which education, but is also the most seen college students? This is the biggest mistake of most college students, which go to colleges
The computer has been one of man’s most influential inventions, paving the way for greater achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers. How does this machine affect our youth and learning process? We have invented a machine with a greater, and faster learning capacity as our own. A new generation has risen that have used computers for most of their lives so it is not surprising that they have become highly dependent on the computer. As of now, humans only use less than twenty percent of their brains, and with computers doing most of our work, this number is slowly decreasing.
If you look in the dictionary, you’ll find the definition of educated to be something close to this: having undergone education; characterized by or displaying qualities of culture and learning; based on some information or experience. But I haven’t found this to be particularly specific, or really helpful at all. As I’ve come to understand, being educated is transient, unless you learn to be, as a truly educated person is, a life-long learner. True education comes from yourself, from gaining an understanding of yourself, and from honing skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. These skills are what make a truly educated person, because they can use and further these skills throughout any aspect of their lives.
Computer literacy requires that an individual be able to word process and have a basic knowledge of CD-Roms, database and the Internet. These are the basic objectives of computer literacy, just as composition may be the objective of regular literacy.
The idea of education has been a big part of each and every culture on earth. However, as we all know, there are many questions on what it means to be educated in the form of higher education: questions we, as students, must face sooner or later. Here I am, my junior year in college. In a couple of years, I will be either prolonging my education or out in the real world trying to make a living. I must ask myself these questions: What is the purpose of my higher education? What exactly am I learning? Is the education I am receiving here at the University of Arkansas going to be good enough for a future employer? If I am educated does that mean I am trained to do only one thing? Am I one-dimensional?
By increasing computer usage by students, installing classroom Internet access and providing instructional classes dedicated to software and hardware education, schools have tried to provide an up-to-date education for students. This is all very important, but is it enough? I feel that perhaps this just isn’t going to cut it for the twenty-first century. Michael Eisenberg and Doug Johnson pose the question in the ERIC Digest, “Can the student who operates a computer well enough to play a game, send e-mail, or surf the Web be considered computer literate?” [1] I believe the answer is yes and no, it depends on whom you are comparing them to. If you are comparing these kids with many adults, then yes they are; however, if you are comparing them to the next younger generation of children that are learning to do these things before they even learn to read, then the answer is a large resounding NO.
Today, computers influence all lifestyles, and all different types of businesses. They have become an essential part of everyday life, from chatting, to e-mail, to commerce, to gaming. Almost every person in the United States has had some use on the computer. Since the technology age began, computers have become a mainstay in American and world society as much as the telephone, the automobile, and the television.
There is a need for more computers in everyday life, in homes, schools and on the job. The advancement of computer technology today in all facets of the world, and life are growing to the point that everyone will need a computer to carry out their everyday life. Computer technology today is at the threshold of making life easier for everyone in the world.
A person can be educated and not have schooling and can also have schooling and not be educated. Education is defined as the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. Students attend school for 7-8 hours a day, 5 days a week for sometimes 12+ years. The definition of education provides a clear explanation as to what education is. Education is deeper than the basic subjects that are taught in school. It provides the student with lifelong knowledge that can be utilized in their everyday lives as they progress in their academic and social lives. Educating a student is a part of the hidden curriculum that is unnoticed by the higher entities of education.
Children growing up in this generation are experiencing a greater impact from computers than in the past. In the past, children and adult, could make a life without a computer, as it wasn’t a necessity or found to be all that useful from time to time. A higher level of dependency on these computers has been established, and society only has more to come in the future. The technology that comes with these complex machines is becoming more developed and is making everyday tasks simpler for most. Computers have changed our nation in many ways, from the way we operate to the accessibility of worldwide resources such as the Internet we use frequently today. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the fluctuation of the influence of computers on a child’s education in their early years, as it has been in the past, how it is in the present, and how it might be in the future.
These days being computer literate is more important than it ever has been in the last few years that computers have been around. Almost everything is becoming computer reliant and there are several businesses that have embraced technology. Computer literacy isn’t something that you can easily escape, and honestly you shouldn’t try to. Humans are all about adapting and computers are just one more thing we all have to learn to adapt to. Unfortunately, everyone doesn’t understand that so it’s vital to understand the importance of being computer literate.
