The movie opens with the extraordinary achievements of Charlie Wilson a man that is said to be truly important in history. They say "without Charlie, history would be hugely and sadly different."
This movie was set during the 80's and based on the true story of Charlie Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a U.S. Representative, congressman to be exact. In the movie we see that Wilson is more interested in partying than legislating. With that his life brings out a federal investigation more so dealing with the allegations of his cocaine use. This investigation was run by U.S. Attorney Rudy Giulani and the result of the investigation was no charge.
After his investigation Joanne a close "friend" persuades Charlie to help the Afghan people and visit the Pakistani government. Despite his drunken ways, drug abuse, and love for women Charlie was hard working. When he found out how little the U.S. was doing to oppose the soviets in the hot zone of the cold war, He was determined to help and change things. After returning home Charlie led an effort to increase funding to the Muj..
During this time Charlie became friends with CIA agent Gust Avrakotos and his group to find a strategy that could help better them, especially including a method to oppose the Soviets' helicopter gunship. This group was made part of many members of the CIA's, including a young officer named Michael Vickers who played a key role in the arming of the "resistance" to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
Charlie's skillful political tactics for this important funding and CIA agent Avrakotos group's careful planning turned the Soviet occupation into a deadly predicament with their heavy fighting ...

...Herring, herself a culprit aid, Wilson called in a bill that he had orchestrated many years ago, to provoke an array of alertness. Wilsons and Herring's activity wasn't under his jurisdiction. He used his power to conduct alluring attention towards his bill. These actions that were made led to many problems in the Soviet empire, Afghanistan such as, the freedom of the nations called satellites.
Charlie once said, "These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world... and then we fucked up the endgame."
His actions enabled our society to continue and saved the human race from being annihilated. He stopped the Soviet Union from their contemptible decisions in using nuclear weapons which would have led to mass destruction. It leaves a question as to whether our government truly cares about the world, that they would leave the sake of it in ones hand.
