There are several defining factors that go into choosing a career. You must evaluate your personality, desire for a personal life, and desire for a certain lifestyle. To achieve these goals, there are several steps I have to take. My short-term career goal is to become a clinical dietitian. I feel that my personality trait would be make me an exceptional clinical dietitian. I am an organized, meticulous, approachable extrovert. It’s important to be organized because each patient will have different nutritional needs. Being meticulous is important because a dietitian is in charge of establishing a food plan that allows the patient to get the proper amount of macronutrients and micronutrients. I liked the fact that clinical dietitians worked a 40-hours a week. I was also impressed that part-time dietitian jobs were also available. I would like to continue my education. This option would make attending graduate school less overwhelming. I believe I could definitely sustain myself on an entry-level salary, as well as a salary for an experienced dietitian. I found that the entry level salary for clinical dietitians was around $45,000 annuall and the median salary for an experienced dietitian was around $57,910 I was pleasantly surprised. Growing up in a low-income household has allowed me to tailor my needs and wants to a budget. I also do not plan on having a family of my own. This will make it much easier to pay back my loans and live comfortably. My long term career goal is to possibly open a private practice. Becoming a clinical dietitian first would allow me to gain experience and a feel for the business. Because having a personal life is important to me, I would to be my own boss.
