To explain the meaning behind the act of writing would take longer than I'd care to mention. In such a complex world, it is almost mandatory that we should be able to document it—in some way, shape, or form. To write is not one large act, one single motion, but instead many intricate movements towards a greater goal. Why do writers write? Well, why are we required to solve equations, or produce certain results in a lab? Since the dawn of time, the human race has utilized any and every form of interpersonal communication it could get its hands on. So, perhaps, writers write for that same purpose. Perhaps not. Why, then, do writers write, if it can't put food on the table? To write with the purpose of making a profit cannot be the truest form of the act; authors like J.K. Rowling wouldn't have even bothered continuing a series after the first book if that were the case. The great poets of the 20th century surely did not write words based on the monetary value they would come to contain. There may be a separate meaning of the word “writer,” because anyone can write. Day-to-day, most, if not all, of the people I know write. Why is it so important to write? The relay of information in today's world has to be nothing short of instant; this is a culture that moves quickly. People nowadays are furrowing their brows at stationary that was once used to mail letters back and forth. Communication has evolved, however, how many people who use social media or the internet would consider themselves writers? The very same demographic that grew up when technology was starting to blossom are the ones who are unaware of what they're doing when they update their Facebook status of caption a picture on Instagram. We are all writers. Most of us do not write to sell books, and a lot of us aren't exactly keen on sitting down to write an English paper, but we are all
