As an immigrant in the United States of America, you have to go through a lot of struggles and hardship to come to America from your homeland. You have to leave behind your family, friends, and valuable items and come to America for a better life with great opportunities. Around 1890’s many immigrants were coming to the United States because of the unstable condition of living, war conflicts, and a bad economy. Before coming to America, you would need a Passport and a ticket. The passport represents your identity and the country you came from. If you were sick, then you would be sent back to your country. The last thing you would be asked to answer few questions about you. After the numerous hours of inspections and walking, now you will finally see the New York. You will be welcomed at Lower East Side Area. This is the most crowded neighborhood of immigrants. Once you get an apartment, you will need a job to pay rent and buy food for the family. The apartments were called Tenements. There were only three rooms in the apartment. The rooms were Kitchen, living room and small bedroom. There are many ways to earn money. The young kids used to sell new papers after their school or work in a garment factory. Some kids were lucky enough to go to school and some were not able to go to school, because they have to stay behind to earn money for their family. For the entertainment, you could either go to Nickelodeon or Coney Island. If you want to go outside, you can play stickball with neighborhood kids or stay at home and listen to Victrola. There are various things you could do at home. For example, laundry, get the coal, cook, or sweep and mop. As you know that immigrants have been always the major part of America.
