In this particular still for the film Django the style Tarantino uses, projects the main character to portray his style of making the star of the movie seem as hero. He is the only actor on the fore-ground standing firmly as all the other black slaves in the background watch him in awe of his confidence as he stands up to a white man. In the shot we don’t see any white men that keep watch on the slaves that could’ve stopped him. The outfit Django wears is the only thing that outstands in the scene because it’s the only colourful thing on the set (which is a typical courtyard, just brown & green leaves). The shot is taken from a distance far from him but gets nearer as he gets a close up, which adds to the dramatic effect. This is also aided by the soundtrack as it gives it more of a standoff feel from the angle it is taken. A showdown kind theme is portrayed as it primarily focuses on the two of them right before Django draws his gun out & the other prepares for what’s about to happen. The moment of silence and shock Django causes also contributes to the dramatic effect. In the fore-ground we see Django taking pride (from the way he stands, his hands on his waist) in his accomplishment of blowing up the house in Candy Land which is burning down in the background. In the shot all that is seen is the burning remains & flames caused by the explosion and large amount of smoke. Although there isn’t any remaining part of the house left standing or any trees or part of the environment around. The most colour and main lighting that is meant to be visible is the burning of the house because it’s at night, but Tarantino does try to make it seem as the artificial moon light was used as it wasn’t so dark. The angle it is taken from is direc... ... middle of paper ... ...s is also one of Tarantino’s techniques of adding a little flare to the movie as it seems like an unrealistic battle at first compared to their numbers against the Nazis (which were so many at that time), but of course not impossible for Tarantino. Other than that, the use of olden day register, the plots, medium, modes of transportation are also majorly & equally responsible for making the movies as historical as they are. Besides the use of common past events that took place, they also contribute to making these films seem as realist as they are, which could be due to the common picture painted in our heads of how the past looked like, from old pictures, documentaries, etc. Tarantino made it possible to easily point out that the movies are not made from a time of this day and age, yet make us feel like we reliving the moment while watching it for the first time.
