The feeling of being an outsider is not a feeling that humans look forward to. However, it is commonly felt by most people around the world. Being an outsider is when you are in a place or a group of people in which you are not like all the others. This could be the case in social classes, cultures, or inside of a family. School and work environments have substantial amounts of people of different races or religions or social classes. Therefore, most students either can feel like an outsider or witness a person who is. People all around the world can be outsiders. This feeling is not limited to a certain group of people. As shown in Pearson Realize in unit 2, being an outsider has been, and will continue to be, a universal feeling. Generally speaking, the majority of people come into contact with an outsider during the course of their daily routine, whether it's at school or at work, we are continually surrounded with outsiders. In most cases at school, you can be considered an outsider because of your social class. If your family makes a lower income, you may be treated differently by your classmates. “Playtime came and Isabel was surrounded. The girls of her class nearly fought to put their arms round her, to walk away with her, to beam flatteringly, to be her special friend” (Mansfield 204). In the story, “The Doll’s House,” all the children wanted to be around Isabel, because she had a new dollhouse. How could Isabel have felt like an outsider with girls begging to be her friend?
