Esfandya was the son of King Goshtasp and a divine warrior of Iran. He was a real hero because he supported the prophet Zartosht enabling him to spread the religion of Zoroastrianism. He also fought against many apostates and enemies of Zartosht to do so. In return, Zartosht gave Esfandiyār a chain and armor from Heaven. The armor made him invincible and the chain had the power to bind anyone, even a demon or evil magician, making them unable to escape. Esfandiyār successfully manages to repel an invasion in far-off provinces. Upon returning he went on another mission to rescue his sisters who had been kidnaped by king of Turan Arjaasb passing through a difficult and dangerous path. Even when he felt what his father wanted him to do was not ok with him he still went ahead to do what was asked like in the case of going to bring the aging Rostam in chains for his arrogance and disrespect toward the king. Ambition made him oblivious that his father was not willing to part from his position as king and thus was always finding dangerous tasks for him to perform which eventually lead to his death. Esfandya progresses as a person and a hero as he takes on all the hard missions given to him by his father and conquers them. His dedication to his support of the prophet zartosht makes him invincible after the prophet made him a chain and armor from Heaven and declared that anyone who would spill the blood of Esfandiyār shall suffer a cursed life of bad omens until the day he dies and even after death would be condemned to hell. This allowed him to learn more things and progress his life without fear. He also realizes at last that his father was the one who lead to his death through his false promises and relieves Rostam of the gilt of killing
