Then later at night he starts to have forbidden thoughts about the uncharted forest that is across the land of the unmentionable times and then he has more thoughts but this time it is about a person who is named The Saint Of Pyre who is part of his memories. Then later for his experiments under the tunnel he discovers electricity. Since he discovered electricity he is used the electricity to make an electric light. The reason he created light is because he wants to light up the whole city using the lights he made and wants to show It to everyone, but then he remembers and knows that if he shows it, other people will not understand anything about his inventions and will be frighten of him and his creation and since the people cant understand he has a plan to bring this invention to show it to the World Council Scholars because he knows they are the only ones that will understand his inventions so they can realize how useful the electric light and to also be welcomed as a scholar as well. Once he showed them the light they were frightened as well because they can't believe how a street sweeper can invent something that event they can't or haven't invented yet so that means that he is evil because it took fifty years for the candles to be approve so for it to be replaced so soon will be evil so that is why they have decided to destroy his electric light. Before they can get him he ran away to uncharted forest but the thing is he didn’t know where he was going because he rather run and be perished than be trapped with that crazy city. Then the next day or so he wakes up and realizes that he is still alive and that he is free and he has all the freedom he has and that nobody can tell him what to do. Right when he woke up he heard footsteps behind him so then he hides in the bushes but he didn’t have to hide because it was just the Golden One who heard about his escape and decided to find his footsteps and followed it to find him. After that he discovers a book and read it. When he read the book he saw the word I and started crying because that word was taken away from him and found out that they got freedom and happiness. Then he decides to name himself Prometheus- the bringer of fire and then the golden one takes the name Gaea- the goddess who was the mother of the earth. Then Later Prometheus discovered that light has been used in the forest before and that he followed in their footsteps to create the light. Then he decided to make electric wires around the house to protect his land and then he will go and steal back into the city to go and save his friends. After he will do that he believes that people should live there own life and be free. Now that the information of the book is told, the purpose and the theme of this story shall be told. The theme of this book is freedom. The theme is freedom because it showing how they don’t have any freedom in the place that they were living. It also shows how much they are limited to doing because there are rules that forbid them from doing anything that they want to do. The purpose of this book is to show how they didn’t have freedom. It also shows that you would need freedom because without freedom places can go and be crazy because they have to follow rules and be limited to do anything. This is what I think the theme and purpose of this book is so now I am going to talk about what I think about this book and if it is good or not. In my opinion I think this book is great. I like it because it has a problem and a little bit of mystery because it shows what the bad things are and what are the good things. This also could relate to real life because it shows what could happen if there is no freedom at all and it also show what and why we need freedom. Another reason I like this book is because of how good the plot is because it has a lot of things Prometheus is doing that is forbidden which shows that he is proving how his side of the story. This why I would like to recommend this book because it is a good book with a lot of plot. These are the reasons why I like this book and why I would prefer to a lot of people to read.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a world where everyone was forced to be exactly alike? Well in Ayn Rand’s novel Anthem she directly confronts this topic through the main character named Equality 7-2521. Equality 7-2521 faces challenges directly relating to the issue that the government has been trying to address for many years. Equality 7-2521 is not like his brothers, he is smarter, wiser and even taller, therefore, his brothers think that he has “evil in his bones” (Rand 18). The book Anthem is the firsthand account of how Equality 7-2521 finds the word “I” amongst the word “We”. He does not agree with these rules that the government has put into place, these are the rules that held him back for a time, but in the end, pushed him forward to be his own person.
Equality 7-2521 is rebellious. If a person is rebellious, he shows a desire to resist authority. This authority is most commonly a government that runs its territory in a way which the rebellious person does not support. Rebellious people argue for changing or replacing this authority because they often view it as corrupt or ineffective. Due to their desire for change, these people are often the most dangerous to governments that wish to retain power and control. Equality 7-2521 shows this desire to defy authority in Anthem. The society that he lives in forbids writing unless it is first approved by the Council of Vocations. However, he has done exactly
In the book Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, Equality 7-2521 had never seen his physical appearance. He was surprised to see such a strong individual staring at him. One day after escaping into the woods, he finally met himself at a flowing stream and gained new confidence. This was an essential part of the theme of "Anthem." This shows how Equality finally found himself as an "I" in order to help others see themselves as an "I." This is an important part of "Anthem" since it reveals Equality 7-2521's determination, bravery, and development as a person.
A society where people lack individualism and the government has suppressive control, ultimately restrains its citizens. Those who rebel from oppressive authority and redefine themselves are those who remain unconquered. To be unconquered is to be uncontrollable, undefined, and in no form abide by social normality. In the poem, “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley, and the novella Anthem, by Ayn Rand both protagonist, Invictus and Equality portray determination and vigor.
In the novella Anthem, by Ayn Rand, expressing individuality is a sin. Ayn Rand creates the main character, Equality 7-2521, to show that a Rational society cannot keep someone from being who they are and having moral judgements without becoming an Irrational Society itself. This is further explained in her short essay, “How Does One Lead a Rational Life in an Irrational Society?”. Equality 7-2521 would second Ayn Rand’s advice on moral judgement being a big responsibility and a determining factor of moral character. He would also agree that there is government brainwashing, due to his personal experience in life. Equality is different from the other men in his world, and because of this he has lived most of his life concealing his emotions,
Equality 7-2521 aspires to be a self-proclaimed individual. In the novella, Anthem, Ayn Rand discusses of a dystopian society in which every man and women are set equal to each other. Equality is damned by the World Council after a discovery of light and electricity, and a contradictory belief in individualism. Freedom is an essential factor in the happiness of man. Equality is scorned for his different looks, mental competence, and independent beliefs but laughs when he recognizes that he should be glorified for understanding that his perception of life leads to contentment.
Many people seem to get entangled into society's customs. In the novel Anthem, the protagonist, Equality 7-2521, lives a period of his life as a follower. However, Equality eventually, tries to distant himself from his society. He is shaped to be a follower, but eventually emerges in to an individual and a leader. On his journey, he discovers the past remains of his community. Ayn Rand uses Equality's discoveries of self to represent the importance of individuality in a functional society.
The book Anthem is a book that can be perceived many various ways. To me, Anthem is about an outstandingly smart young man, named Equality 7-2521
“For the coming of that day shall I fight, I and my sons and my chosen friends. For the freedom of Man. For his rights. For his life. For his honor.”(page 104). In the novella Anthem by, Ayn Rand, the main character Equality, fought for a way to be himself and help mankind. Rand clearly made Equality’s primary motivation joining The Council of Scholars as a creator, and through the course of two years, due to Equality conducting experiments in all of his spare time until he discovers a method of harnessing the power of electricity to use it to light the community. Equality confirms the right to his motivation. What was Equality’s primary motivation, is he right to be motivated in this way, and what would the world be like if everyone was
Anthem, by Ayn Rand, is a very unique novel. It encircles individualism and makes the reader think of how people can conform to society and do as they are told without knowing the consequences and results of their decisions. Also, it teaches the importance of self expression and the freedom that comes along with being your own person and having the power to choose what path to take in life. Figurative language is used often in this book and in a variety of quotes that have great importance to the theme, plot, and conflict of the novel.
The city represented slavery. When in the city, Equality had been guilty of many transgressions. He was not like his brothers, he was different he was smarter, healthier, and stronger. At the age of five he advanced to home of the student, where he got scolded for learning faster then his brothers. Equality teachers told him that he had evil in his bones because he was taller then his brothers. Then at the age of fifteen when the house of vocations came Equality was guilty of the great transgression of preference because he wanted to be a scholar, but his selected vocation was to be a street sweeper. Every day while he swept by the fields he would watch and smile at Liberty and she would smile back. Liberty was a woman that worked in the home of the peasants. Making contact with a woman was prohibited but for when in the palace of the mating. The palace of the mating was where people were forced to breed. Equality thought touching a woman was shameful and ugly. Th! en one day while he swept the streets he found a grate that led to underground tunnel full of things from the unmentionable times. For two years he went to the tunnel and discovered a new glowing light. Then one day while in the tunnel decided that he must share his secret with his brothers. He decided that he would bring his secret in front of the world council meeting. When Equality entered the world council meeting the scholars got frightened and angry. They demanded that he tell them why he was there. He connected the wires and they glowed, the scholars backed up against the wall as they stared in horror. They told him that he they were going to punish for breaking so many laws. Equality trembled in fright he quickly grabbed the light and ran to the uncharted forest. No man followed because they feared the unknown.
“For I know what happiness is possible to me on Earth. And my happiness needs no higher aim to vindicate it” (Rand 95). In this part of the novella, Equality, the narrator, is aware that he can find his own happiness and he should show it once it is found. Throughout the novella, Anthem written by Ayn Rand, Equality is trying to find himself in a society full of equals. As he discovers the tunnel, Equality creates a light bulb in which he wants to flaunt upon the people of his society. Subsequently, when it is rejected by the Council, he hides in the forest from those who see him as a betrayer. Equality tries to find himself in a collectivist society that he knows he does not belong in, in which he evolves. The author believes in objectivism,
Anthem by Ayn Rand is considered a dystopian novel. The characters live in a society where everything is bad, and they have no control over their life or destiny. The book is about a man, Equality 7-2521, who breaks all the laws of his society and dares to be different. The book is in first person and designed to seem like a journal entry. Equality 7-2521 lives in a futuristic society where people have no knowledge of individualism, and the words ‘I’ or ‘me’ do not exist.
At this point there seems to be one main character (setting the scene, and the past scene as this is important to the story) but she mentions others as well, which will be involved later on, the first chapter seems to represent the foundation to what is going to happen later on.
The author, Ayn Rand, develops the thematic statement of the heroic potential of human beings by the main character, equality, slowly discovering himself throughout the book. Equality is considered an odd one out in the story because he is highly intelligent and taller than all the other citizens. Equality escapes to the forest from the City with the golden one and finds a house after crossing the chains of mountains that was left from the Unmentionable Times. Equality and the Golden One stay in an abandoned house, and they read the books found inside which expands their knowledge of the Unmentionable Times. After reading the books Equality states “I am done with the monster of “we” the word of serfdom, of plunder, of misery, falsehood, and
