Effectiveness in Achieving Environmental Sustainability
Both beaches’ management responses have not achieved a great deal in terms of increasing environmental sustainability. Many of the measures implemented by both beaches are similar or the same, and most are helping the environment in the short term, to the detriment of the beach in the long-term, thus not facilitating environmental sustainability.
For instance, the sea walls that exist on both beaches will, in the long run, result in more beach erosion, and as a result lessening environmental sustainability. The main tactic both beaches use to combat this is sand nourishment – which, while allowing for visitors to experience a sandier beach if they arrive in a period of time directly after a storm, does not address the underlying issue – the displacement of sand due to a …show more content…

How Individuals Could Contribute to Environmental Sustainability
With the rise in activities such as ecotourism, and the increase in the general populace’s willingness to help contribute to a sustainable environment for themselves and future generations to enjoy, there are a great deal of actions that individuals in Collaroy and Fort Lauderdale can take to increase the Environmental Sustainability of the area, ranging from simple tasks that decrease the strain on the beach area, to organising major changes.
Some simple, easy-to-do actions include not walking on dune vegetation. This can be furthered by educating others on the beach not to do this, or on a larger scale by informing others through various media, such as posters or requesting the council to launch an awareness campaign, something already done in
