Entertainment good or bad?
Did you know that paper burns at 451 degrees Fahrenheit? Fahrenheit 451 is about a man named Guy Montag, who is a fireman. In this story a fireman is a person that burns books and arrests people who are found with illegal books. Montag is going through life with his wife Mildred, who is feeding off entertainment. Entertainment in Fahrenheit 451 relates to how the future is advancing. How entertainment is affecting the society, how highly people think of technology, and why people think technology is more important than the old ways of doing things. This will lead to proving that entertainment is ruining the society and the people in the society. Entertainment is affecting the society in Fahrenheit 451. An example in the novel is when Mildred says, “It’s really fun. It’ll be even more fun when we can afford to have a fourth wall installed. How long you figure before we save up and get the fourth wall torn out and a fourth wall-TV put in. It's only two thousand dollars”(Bradbury 18). This shows how entertainment is affecting society, because she is feeding off of entertainment and she feels like she needs more. This happens in reality too, because technology is rising in the real word and people are wanting more and more technology, like all of the phones, tablets, and TVs people want. For an example in the novel when Montag asked, “Will you turn the parlor off?” and Mildred replied, “That’s my family” (Bradbury 46). This quote shows how highly people think of technology by Mildred relating technology to her family. People in reality do this too, because lots of people think of technology to highly, referring to it as their baby or their prized possession. According to the Second Annual Expedia Pleasure Index, 65% of people said that they would rather give up something else rather than their phone for an entire week for a extra vacation
