The Endocrine System I have chosen the endocrine system, because there is so much within this system that makes our bodies function. The endocrine system is made up of glands that are in various parts of the body. These glands produce and secrete hormones directly into the blood.
One of the functions of the endocrine system is to keep the body in homeostasis by regulating body fluids, electrolytes, glucose, cell metabolism, growth and the wake -sleep cycle; some endocrine glands do double duty as part of other body systems.
The pituitary gland is within the brain. The anterior pituitary gland produces and secretes seven different hormones. These are known as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)and luteinizing hormone (LH)stimulate the female and male sex glands. The prolactin (PRL) mammary gland produces milk.
