Animal extinction is an issue that is occurring all over the globe. It is also something that has occurred since the beginning of time. However, it used to be natural process that would take a long time, now with human involvement the extinction of certain species is accelerating. Most species become extinct because of habitat destruction, introduction of non-native organisms, and direct killing. The marine species are no exception to the human acceleration in extinction either by the general benefit received by them, but only those classified as more valuable that other species get a voice to classify them as endangered while the other are extinct.
The extinction marine life has come to great value to some scientist and few people within the last few years, since the world is covered in just about 75% of water, all marine species are difficult to perceive. In the NOAA (National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration) website is states that “approximately 2,100 species of marine life”, that they know of are listed as endangered. They also have stated that with in the last “40 years (1972) 11 species have become extinct, of which 2 were marine life specimen.” Within that time period generations to come will never see those species.
Until recently, humankind seemed to view the ocean as a source of infinite resources. Its vast size and depth and unexplored frontiers made the ocean appear invulnerable to overexploitation, however in recent years a lot of research has gone into the combined effects of pollution, acidification, ocean warming, over-fishing and depleting levels of oxygen in the water, and just as the world above the ocean is having major problems with similar issues, so is the world of the underworld. As...

We are looking at consequences for humankind that will impact in our lifetime, and worse, our children's and generations beyond that

The manatee has been on the endangered species list since the year. 2001. The 'Secondary' of the 'Secondary' This is caused by pollution in the water, power boats, and slow reproductivity. The symbiosis of the symbiosis. As a result, humans are putting an effort into saving these seas.
This problem may seem prevalent and it is very important to know about. It affects marine life in many ways, but humans are also greatly affected.by this problem. People don’t realize what this problem does to them. However the human race can always work and solve this issue. People shouldn’t dump trash in the ocean or any water source. Trash can destroy coral reefs and other important ecosystems and ruin marine life. Most important sewage plants shouldn’t dump raw sewage into the ocean because it provides nutrients to harmful algae. Governments around the world should put more restrictions on sewage and the disposal of it. But if the solution wants to be solved people must work together.
Major exploration may harm the environment due to how we exploit resources. According to Philippe Cousteau’s commentary, he states that “the world has fished, mined and trafficked the ocean’s resources to a point where we are actually seeing dramatic changes that are seriously impacting today’s generations” (70). This emphasizes that attempting major exploration has an impact in our environment. Additionally, Elisabeth Rosenthal’s “Stinging Tentacles Offer Hint of Oceans’ Decline” gives us an idea how pollution affects the climate. Dr. Josep-MarÍa Gili

“The Ocean’s Glory – and Horror” is a speech given by Brian Skerry that depicts the impact humans can have on the ocean and the species within it. Brian Skerry is an underwater photographer and decided that people didn’t completely understand what was occurring underneath the surface of that sparkly blue ocean that they love so much. Skerry emphasizes how the audience needs to explore these different perspectives to get a new understanding of how life beneath the ocean’s surface really works. This lecture also grabbed my attention due to the fact that it goes along with my major in marine biology. The entire speech focuses on giving the audience a new point of view of the ocean and key factors in preserving the beauty of the deep blue. This

What is the first marine mammal added to the endangered species list attributed primarily to climate change? As climate change melts the ice, it is projected that two thirds of polar bears will disappear by 2050. This drastic decline in the polar bear is occurring in our lifetime, which is but a miniscule fraction of the time polar bears have explored the vast Arctic seas (National Wildlife Federation, 2014).

Oceans are such so vast that people underestimate the impact their actions —seeming so insignificant— have on them. Humans have by and large taken the oceans for granted; not considering how important a healthy ocean is to our survival. A popular mind-set is that the oceans are a bottomless supply of fish, natural resources, and an infinite waste dump. There are myriad reasons why the oceans should be saved and the most obvious one is marine life. With 71% of the Earth being covered by water, it is obvious that sea creatures are predominant form of life, making up 80% of the species of life on Earth. However, as important as marine life is, that is not the only reason why saving the oceans is crucial. The ocean floor provides natural resources such as, oil, natural gas, petroleum, minerals, medications, and ingredients for foods and products. The economic benefits of the oceans are huge and significant, as well. Fishing and fish products have provided employment to 38 million people and have generated about $124 billion in economic benefits. However, oceans are on the verge of crisis, marine life, natural resources, transportation, the economy, and important ingredients are at risk due to overfishing, pollution, and acidification. Thus, in this essay I will argue that, oceans are not impervious to human activity and threatening the health of the ocean threatens the health of humanity, since oceans key to our survival.
Any species which fall into the categories vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered are considered to be at risk of extinction. Robert Redford said “I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security defense of our resource’s because it’s just as important as defense abroad otherwise what is there to defend?” People should all take the environment more seriously and protect the future for those to come. It’s our responsibility to ensure that the children to come may enjoy all of earth’s beauty, and not through old issues of National Geographic’s.
Did you know that more than 90 percent of all organisms that have ever lived on Earth are extinct? According to Pandey, the author of Humans Pushing Marine Life toward ‘Major Extinction’, nearly 10,000 species go extinct each year, and this rate is estimated to be 1,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate (1). Human beings are causing irreversible damage to the oceans and their wildlife, which is being led by two major reasons: Commercial fishing or over-fishing, which damaged the marine environment and caused a loss in the marine life diversity, and pollution, which is a primary way of the extinction causes that drastically modifies the marine life habitat. As a result of the commercial fishing and pollution, many of the marine species will start disappearing of the oceans. Briggs emphasizes that over-fishing “has induced population collapses in many species. So instead of having less than a hundred species at risk, as was the case some 30-40 years ago, there are now a thousand or more (10).”

The oceans cover about three-quarters of our planet and have a huge amount of oxygen. They are also the source of most products today. Apparently, our life is strongly connected to the oceans ( Prager, "01/09/2015"). There are many problems that harm the oceans and marines. For example, overfishing that is a really big one that may kill a lot of fish species. Another big problem that is the main reason for what the oceans and marines situation being today is people. In this essay, I will give some important problems that are harmful to the oceans life.
In our world today we have approximately 26,021 endangered species. Endangered species are organisms that may possible become extinct. The term 'endangered species' refers to all species that fits this description. However some conservation biologists and scientists normally use the term ‘endangered species’ to refer to species that are put on the IUCN(International Union for Conservation of Nature)Red List. Many factors can be looked at when considering the conservation status of a species. Factors such as human threats or environmental threats can cause a species to become endangered.
