In this paper I am going to be talking about social and emotional development in my niece Loren. Social Development involves learning the values, knowledge and skills that enable children to relate to others effectively and to contribute in positive ways to family, school and the community (https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/families/about-friendship/social-development/social-development-children’s-social-development). I will also be talking about her emotional development. Emotional development is the emergence of a child 's experience, expression, understanding, and regulation of emotions from birth through late adolescence. It also comprises how growth and changes in these processes concerning emotions occur (http://www.education.com/reference/article/emotional-development/). Loren is a five year old, Caucasian little girl. She lives with her parents in a rural part of Ohio. Her dad works at a construction company and her mom is a hair stylist and stay at home mom. Her mom stays home Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and she works Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. She has two brothers, an older brother Trent and a younger brother Troy. They currently are living in a rental home, because their house is in the process of being built. They are a very close family and they spend a lot of time together. On …show more content…

Loren is very active. She has dance class twice a week and she does gymnastics. I went and watched her ballet class. In the class, one of her friends kept telling the teacher that she couldn’t do the dance. Loren then told the little girl that she could do it. She said, “I know you can do it, because I can do it.” The dance teacher had Loren do the dance in front of the class alone, and then has the little girl join her in the dance. Loren didn’t say that in a way to show of, she said it in an empathetic way. Loren is able to identify her different emotions and she’s able to notice them in
