Emily Wilding Davison's Death for The Suffragette Cause
Emily Wilding Davison is one of the most famous of the suffragettes.
It was Emily Wilding Davison who threw herself under the king's horse
at the derby of 1913 marking a mark in the annals of not only history,
but how women's plights of not being able to vote, were so
dramatically thrown into the public spot light. How ever even till
today, the reason for her to do this is still quite unknown. Many
questions still exist. Was she meant to perform an act that nowadays
only looks like suicide, or was she just a martyr for the suffragette
cause?
Emily Wilding Davison was appalled at the state if affairs concerning
women in a late Victorian society; she was especially angered by how
women were denied the right to vote. For example a very wealthy female
land owner could not vote however her male staff could. Emily Davison
became a follower of the suffragettes, and believed there policy of
women were being treated as second class citizens. That statement
angered Emily Wilding Davison, but was it enough to make her take her
own life at the derby in 1913?
The derby was held on the June 4th 1913, Emily Wilding Davison
achieved her place in history as she lost her life in a race at the
derby. The horses came out of Tattenham corner, the kings horse
(Anmer) was third from last, Emily Wilding Davison got underneath the
barrier and was hit by Anmer. Why would an intelligent woman perform a
tragic act of this nature? Or was she a martyr for the suffragette
cause?

footage can be found in a variety of mediums today, which include
video and the internet to name a few. Filming the event was a new
concept to the 1913 derby, with it being state of the art technology.

Women did not have natural born rights, such as the right to vote, to speak in public, access to equal education, and so forth, did not stop them to fight for their rights. Women's lives soon changed when Lucy Stone, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony played a prominent role to help bring about change.
During the reconstruction of the South many people had opposing views on black rights. The south predominantly thought blacks were inferior, but the North was more accepting of black rights. After years of fighting between confederates and abolitionists black rights were finally put into place. Black rights caused disunity between the people just as Women's Suffrage in the 20’s did. Just as black rights were sanctioned with time, Women's suffrage should also have been acknowledged. Throughout the 20’s many woman tried to obtain popularity in women's suffrage by holding meetings. The Seneca Falls Convention, organized by Elizabeth Staton, was a convention held by women's rights activists. These meetings addressed many issues that affected women's rights. These meeting were held to start giving notoriety to the issues pertaining to woman. Women's rights in the 20th century was an extremely controversial topic. Although women had been seen as inferior for many years, looking at the documents it’s unequivocal that woman should have been given the same domestic, political and social rights as men.

She worked towards many goals in order for women to have a say in a world where men ruled. She wrote the Declaration of Sentiments, a groundbreaking request for women’s rights. In a time in which women had no rights, Stanton, along with her partner Susan B. Anthony, started movements to change the lives of women for eternity.
Sojourner Truth and Women Suffrage “Who is the Sojourner Truth?” Isabella Baumfree, also considered Van Wagenen, was born in 1797 and died in 1883. She was the first black to speak out to people about slavery and abolitionists. She was said to have a deep manly voice but had a quick wit and inspiring faith (Encyclopaedia, 474). It was Truth’s religious faith that transformed her from Isabella to Sojourner Truth.
Sometimes, in order to have justice in this world, violent actions need to be taken to be able to get a point across and fight for what is fundamentally right. In today’s society, feminism is viewed as a non-violent way of having the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. However, it was not always like that.
