Death has always been viewed as something man fears or runs away from but, everyone knows that's a battle you can’t win. In the death will always catch up to you and haul you away no matter who you are. “Because I could not stop for death” by Emily Dickinson is about a person who sees death as a man, who is their friend. The author uses imagery and alliteration in order to go into the full depth about the personal relationship, he or she has with death. The author use alliteration at the beginning in order to make those few words really stand out and grab the reader’s attention. Another reason that the author uses alliteration is to create a emphasis on the words the she uses for the alliteration because they are so similar yet, have opposite meanings. An example of alliteration being used is line 7 “my labor and leisure too,”. This line stood out because it’s about how the person in the poem says she had to stop her work and play for death. Emily Dickinson creates this dark gloomy image about the house. It’s described in almost a haunted fashion. Lines 17-20 “ We paused at the house that seemed/ A swelling of the ground/ The roof was scarcely visible/ The Cornice- in the Ground” is the biggest example of imagery displayed throughout the entire poem. It creates this dark display in your mind which is a big shift from the light, flowy vibes given on earlier in the poem. The use of imagery displays different signs in the poem because in the beginning of the poem imagery is used for them as if they're close friends enjoying sightseeing on a road trip but, then the later on use imagery points to death as making her go to all these different places and it sounds as if the speaker no longer wants to be on that “fun filled trip” with
