Emerson was one of the hardest books I have ever read. It was very difficult to understand a language that was before my time. Emerson is the true definition of Real English. I may say trying to realize what he is saying and then trying to write about him is very difficult. In “Prudence”, Emerson writes: “He that despiseth small things, will perish by little and little.” (137). The small things when added up very quickly contribute to the larger. They are opt to do as the man with one talent, disregard the little for the greater, and in result lose both small and great. By writing on prompts like “Art,”, “Friendship,” and “Spiritual Laws”, Emerson teaches one how not to be so closed minded, to always think outside the box. I took me awhile to understand and interpret what he was saying, so I relied on the internet to get a better understanding.

...le bit beginning to understand Emerson. I knew what Emerson was trying to say but by it being old English I still needed just a little bit more help to understand things. This quotation came from the essay “Friendship.” Emerson understood the way in which friends of like minds can stimulate one another. It was like he knew exactly how each other will provide needed moments of personal reflections. In today’s society people can’t tell when someone is in need of their help unless that person asks them. It was like Emerson knew exactly the right time, at least that’s what I got from this essay.
Emerson seem like through-out this essay that he had an inner-circle of friends or community which he relied on as his resources. When going across some stuff it seem like the kind of self-observation and reflection to Emerson’s inner circle was not the self-conscious variety.
