Growing up, I was never really sure what career would fit best for me. I didn’t know which direction I was going to take and I always ended up pushing it aside because truly, it scared me. Coming into high school, I ended up with multiple injuries – I sprained my left ankle twice and my right ankle once; I also ended up spraining my elbow. This all happened through cheerleading and lacrosse. I was continually going to the hospital and started to realize what my passion was – being in the medical field. My passion for being in the medical field grew even more when my brother married his girlfriend, Yuko. She happened to be a nurse, as well as my other brother who worked as a physical therapist. Though I didn’t know what field I necessarily wanted to go into, and I still am a little conflicted, I knew my heart was in the medical field. One that I’ve specifically looked into recently has been emergency room nurses. It all comes down to who you are. I know where my passion lies and it’s in the medical field. Whether or not I become a nurse or I end up as a physical therapist, I want to be able to impact the lives of others in a positive way. My main objective is wanting to help others and I know I’m able to do that in this field. I’ve always had a soft spot for others when it comes to encouraging and wanting to help in some sort of way. With many medical careers students often get confused on what they really want to study, I have faced this problem myself and I know is not that easy due too many choices. There are many options ranging from healthcare to medical jobs. I have thoughtfully chosen to enter the program for Medical Assistant (MA). Ever since I was a child, I’ve spent most of childhood years at the Hospital, I was diagnosed with a rare condition that had to be treated continuously, this meant that I had to be going to checkups every three months so I was close to doctors, surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologist, medical assistants, etc. I remember at first I was frightened just of the thought of going to the doctor but after a few visits I got used to. The doctors and nurses were nice and caring and made me feel comfortable that I end up enjoying my doctor’s visits every time. Since then I decided I wanted to work in the medical field, this is my goal since I can remember. I have always enjoyed helping people in any way I possibly can. I chose to be a Medical Assistant because I think is great way to start my medical career going and programs are practical and not long.

When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
Several years, colleges, and majors later I found myself still without a gut-felt direction. On a whim I decided to go to EMT school. It was there that I was finally introduced to the healthcare field and loved it at once. After finishing the program I worked the 911 system and also took a job as a patient care technician in a pediatric emergency department. I quickly saw that the hospital setting was where I wanted to be and that I had to become a nurse. That I did, and haven't left the emergency department since!
I have imagined myself in several different careers that have interested me as I've been growing up, from styling hair to being a fashion designer, and even a professional singer. Now, even though it is crazy to believe time has flown by so fast, I am at the age where I am deciding what I want to major in. Even though all of those professions I have listed above were very interesting, there was one job when I was growing up that I knew would be a stable and interesting profession: a nurse practitioner. I have always been interested in health sciences and seeing as though I'm familiar with a doctor’s office/hospital setting due to being born with a birth defect, I felt that nurse practitioner was the most suitable job for me. Nurse practitioner would be a good career choice for me because they are paid well, are in high demand, do many interesting things, and they can work in multiple different settings.

They often offer information on nutrition, diet, and good health habits. The work of a Pediatric Nurse can range from assisting a Physician with the exam of a child to drawing blood.
When it comes to switching shifts, nurses usually give a quick report on the patient, so the oncoming nurse knows what is going on with the patients. Sometimes nurses are rushing through the report, skipping through vital information, which can cause harm in our patients. We must have a standard hand off report each nurse must follow to provide patient safety and satisfaction.
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) are high trained nurses who use their developed training in the use of anesthesia to alleviate patient pain and discomfort due to medical procedures. Nurse anesthetists have been providing anesthesia for more than 125 years, dating back to the early Civil War. ("Nurse anesthetist," 2014). They undergo rigorous training post nursing licensure that allows them to hold a high position in the nursing field working beside surgeons, anesthesiologist, dentists, podiatrist, and many other skilled healthcare professionals ("Nurse anesthetist," 2014). Pain management is one of the main aspects in any procedure, if not the most important to the patient, therefore giving nurse anesthetists a wide spectrum of work settings in the medical field that they can practice in.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)
In high school, I was among those students who always indicated that I will be going college. However, unlike most people I seem to meet these days I did not know that I wanted to be a doctor. When it was time to head off to college, I was still unsure of what I wanted to pursue. As most college freshmen, I did not know what major best suits my personality. I desired a career that would define who I am and a career that is self-gratifying. However, the path that I should follow was unclear to me. Because of my uncertainty I failed to see that my parents dream became my reality. As I began my college experience as a nursing student, I felt somewhat out of place. I realized that my reason for majoring in nursing was my parents' influence on me. They wanted me to believe that nursing is right for me. I always knew I wanted to go into the medical field, but I felt that I needed to know how to choose a medical specialty that I feel is right for me. My first step was to change my major. I chose to change my major to biology. My love for science led me to this decision. I began to explore the opportunities open to biology students.

Working in the emergency department can be easily described as fast placed and at times hectic. Being aware of resource management and learning to prioritize patients are skills that are required to be learned quickly. Once a basic understanding and knowledge of these skills are acquired, nurses are able to build off of them and adapt them however they see fit.
Emergency Medical Services are a system of emergency services committed to delivering emergency and immediate medical care outside of a hospital, transportation to definitive care, in attempt to establish a efficient system by which individuals do not try to transport themselves or administer non-professional medical care. The primary goal of most Emergency Medical Services is to offer treatment to those in demand of urgent medical care, with the objective of adequately treating the current conditions, or organizing for a prompt transportation of the person to a hospital or place of greater care.
