According to Elvis Presley “Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away.”

According to a recent survey, which I conducted with 13 Crane High School students and faculty, most people agree that Elvis Presley was the greatest of his time. The results were that 92-percent agreed that Elvis was the greatest artist of his time. 8-percent disagreed that he was the best. The pie chart above, which is based off of my survey(1).Musician and actor Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. He has gone past Madonna to claim the record for the most UK No.1 albums by a solo artist. Presley has also created a new world record for the longest time between No.1 albums in the UK(3). His first movie, Love Me Tender (1956), was a really good film. Even though Elvis was having good success the military still put his career on hold. He received his draft notice in 1957, and went into the Army the upcoming March(8). Induction centers and recruiting depots were filled with thousands of protesting women who were convinced that the Army was putting his life in big danger. Letters came from all around the U.S., trying to stop the army career of Elvis Presley. Elvis himself was the first to calm things down by saying “All I want is to be treated as a regular G.I. I want to do my duty and I’m mighty proud to be given the opportunity to serve my country”(7). He eventually served in Germany for about a year and a half. Before Presley left for Europe, his mother, Gladys, died. He got to leave and return to Memphis for the funeral. He was sad by her death, Presley then still returned to duty.
