Ella Fitzgerald Ella Fitzgerald also known as “The first lady of song” and was the first American jazz and song vocalist who inspired the world (LLC 2017). Even though Ella was a great singer, it took her a long time to become successful, and overcome the roadblocks in her life . Her life was greatly impacted by many people in her life. Ella was born of William Fitzgerald and Temperance “Tempie” Fitzgerald (Gale 2005). She was born on April 25, 1917 in Newport News, Virginia (LLC 2017). Her parents were part of a common-law marriage, which means they lived together for a period of time and told there friends and family, that they were “married” but never went through an actual marriage ceremony (Gale 2005). To go along with her type one diabetes, she had to have multiple surgerys. Ella Fitzgerald had to have a Quintuple Bypass, which is an open heart surgery. Fitzgerald’s diabetes left her blind, and had to have both of her legs amputated below the knees. Due to her diabetes she died on June 15, 1996 in her home in Beverly Hills, California. She was 78 years old. Even though Fitzgerald was beloved by all, her family wanted a private funeral, since it was a private funeral, there is no recollection of what church it was held at or if it was even held at a church. Since people couldn't attend the funeral themselves they held a special tribute at the Hollywood Bowl, they sang some of her songs and even talked about all the fun times they had at her concerts. We now know that Ella Fitzgerald is buried at Inglewood Park Ceremony in Inglewood, California. People know this, because her family posted it in the local newspaper (Gale 2005). Every year on her birthday people go and visit the grave site and leave flowers to remember what a great and amazing person she was. She had such an amazing and successful career, that people still listen to her relaxing music. The people that lived during her time as a singer, know how inspirational she was in their lives.
