I am writing to express my gratitude to you for your continued support regarding Electronic Health Records. As you know Electronic Health Records (EHR) is a central key part of the evolution of computerized documentation in the health care field. Kelly, Brandon and Docherty, 2011 informs that “64% of healthcare facilities still use paper-based documentation; these units must convert to electronic health records in the near future or face penalties.” The utilization of Electronic Health Records will lead to better quality outcomes for both the patient and healthcare providers, by improving patient care, practice efficiencies & cost savings, increasing patient participation and family engagement. These advanced outcomes may be proficient by imploring better treatment options for providers using EHRs. Although EHR is an advancement for the healthcare field, changes are needed to protect the patients. For EHR to achieve viability, the patients must be convinced that their well-being will be secured; if this confidentiality is endangered the patient’s trust will be compromised (Layman, 2008). Patients participating in their health can increase the chances of improvement in their health. Electronic Health Records can help foster patient involvement by collaborating with providers with informed decision making on their health. The utilization of the device can ensure high-quality care by the providers giving their patient full and accurate information about all their medical assessments, can provide follow-up information, reminders of care and links to resourceful sites. With EHR, communication between both participants may help providers identify symptoms earlier based on symptoms and assessments causing the physician to be more proactive in reaching out to patients
