Daunting Effects of Social Isolation Over the years there has been a spike of health effects due to the uprising of social isolation. Through years of studies social isolation has been found to increase the death rate of people suffering from this condition and majorly affects people on a daily basis. Social isolation comes with its daunting health effects like increased brain activity. Also leading factors in the new age of technology that we currently live in include social media and smart phones and the way society perceives the situation based on their belief of old traditions or new is a major factor to consider. Health effects of social isolation go hand in hand as the other causes them, and many scientists are beginning to discover what is behind it. Neuroscientists discovered that the dorsal raphe nucleus region of the brain that is located in the middle of the brain generates the evidence of how social you are (NewsRxHealth). The trend of materialism in our fast industrializing world also contributes to the downfall of social isolation. Statistical information shows that since the 1960s, 60% fewer families went on picnics and 40% fewer family dinners (American Spectator). Lowered family interaction also sets a good example of how the world and social isolation go hand in hand, it has changed due to the increased wave of technology that has distracted us from our daily lives.
