Background The word “Phubbing” is a combination of the words phone and snubbing. Although it was originally believed that Alex Haigh, a student at Melbourne, created this word when he designed the “Stop Phubbing” website, the word was created in May of 2012 by the McCann advertising agency. The advertising agency created the word “Phubbing” to raise consumer interest and up sales of their new dictionary that was going to be released, the Macquarie dictionary. Because you are staring at a phone screen rather than interacting with those around you, the possibility of meeting new people and making new friends decreases. This lack of social interaction can lead to social isolation. People will miss conversations and opportunities to make new memories with friends and family. Relationships could become built on social media updates, rather than the individuals spending quality time together. People may begin to lose the want or ability to talk face to face, and instead communicate solely by mobile devices. Avoiding “Phubbing” and creating awareness could also lead to increased road safety by encouraging people to avoid this not only at social events and everyday life, but also while driving and waiting at stop lights and road signs. Benefits There are many benefits that result from avoiding “Phubbing”. The person that you talk to in the elevator or waiting room could be play an important role in your career or future. Stronger relationships with friends, family, and people in general. Causes a person to focus on what is going on in the world and the people around them, rather than their cell phone and social media. Cost The cost to host the event would be little to none. Any snacks or refreshments could be donated or made by those helping host. Other groups on campus could get involved and help with the setup and supplies. By hosting it on campus so there would not be a cost to pay to rent out a room at a different location. This would make it possible for there to be no cost for those who want to attend, and in turn encourage a high attendance
People spend more time staring at their phone than they do at each other. ANALYSIS Chris Morris’s “Is technology killing the human touch?” The purpose of this article is to inform that people spend more time on social networks than with family and friends. The author gives an example of how technology changes our behavior “that can impact communication, relationships and our day-to-day interactions with others” (Morris).
In Syracuse, N.Y., there have been strict laws against handheld cellphone use and texting and driving, and they have been extremely effective (Copeland, 1). Law enforcement saw over 70% of texting driving put to a halt. Transportation secretary Ray LaHood said, “Over half a million people are said to be injured, and thousands more are killed in distracted driving accidents” (Copeland, 1).Another very effective campaign that will probably soon be known world-wide is “Phone in one hand, Ticket in the other”(Copeland, 1). Most people in todays world would be familiar with the “click it or ticket” phrase that has allowed people to be reminded to put on their seat belt. Just as this campaign reminds people to wear a seat belt, the “Phone in one hand, Ticket in the other” is designed to remind drivers that it is far too dangerous to be interacting with your phone while driving (Copeland, 1).

In the last 5 years, the number of people who have watched safe driving PSA’s has been increasing due to the shocking content of the videos, and consequently, the word about safe driving is now spreading more than ever. From teens who’ve just received their permit, to parents who are always behind the wheel, PSA’s have a good impact on all those who have not yet been alerted about the dangers of distracted driving. To quickly summarize PSA’s: Public Service Announcements or PSA’s for short are the new method organizations and charities use to spread the word about public safety. The most shocking PSA’s are those that display the effects of distracted driving (due to the gory/shocking scenes).
Today’s society appears to be constantly on the go. People seem to be pulled in multiple directions at once. Individuals never appear to have enough time to complete tasks that continually accumulate. It can be difficult to criticize someone that tries to make the most out every minute. Unfortunately, some of today’s drivers show a lack of judgment and trying to perform other tasks, while behind the wheel. People may feel this is best use time while getting to a destination. Occasionally, the small amount of time that people are trying to gain results in a time consuming accident. All through our academic years we were taught how to write. Starting with elementary, when the form of writing was first introduced, it consisted of compositions with simple prompts about our weekends. Now, that there was an idea of how to write, middle school English teachers began teaching students a writing format. This format is commonly known as the five-paragraph essay, which entailed an introduction, three supporting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The five-paragraph essay began being strongly implemented in high school and it leads to many debates whether or not it benefited students proceeding into college. Another way it is harmful to social interactions is through social networking sites. While social networking has the ability to reconnect with old friends, see what family and friends are up to, and stay informed, it also has a dark side. Problems with romantic or even platonic relationships can arise from something as small as who your friends are on Facebook or whom you follow on Twitter. A more likely situation is that romantic relationships could face turmoil if one person finds out that the other has been talking to someone else privately. Under certain circumstances, one partner could think that the other is cheating on them.

Technology has had a bad impact on the way humans socialize because it causes people to be less interactive. Social isolation is a health condition that can become very severe and lead up to depression, anxiety, despair and many other things. It's impossible to imagine a time when there were no phones, which was a long time ago. During 1983 the first phone was made, it took 10 hours to charge the battery. Before smartphone were invented. We even have portable chargers now. No one could imagine life without phones. Weather your checking twitter or texting a friend. Everyone likes to talk, listen and learn about new things. Road safety is one of the most important aspects of daily living. Our vehicle is our main transportation from one place to another. The number of car and motorcycle accidents seem to be increasing because of the many distractions, the lack of safety measures and judgment to road conditions and weather. Not being cautious increases the chances of not only injuring ourselves but hurting others as well. On the road, you see people talking on their cell phones or texting, eating, putting makeup on, changing the radio station, reading or using your GPS while driving. These are all distractions that endanger drivers, passengers and bystanders safety.
