Edward Scissorhands is a film directed by Tim Burton, a creator of mostly kid “horror” films, and is most likely a film that teens would enjoy. Edward, who is played by Johnny Depp, is a human/machine who has scissors for hands, causing him to been seen as a unique or a bad person. Edwards creator collapsed after trying to give Edward his hands, which made Edward have to live on his own. Edward was visited by Pegg, an Avon sellslady, who went door to door asking people to buy her products. She saw Edward’s house and decided to take the opportunity to go up there. Once Peg arrived she was shocked at what she found. She headed up to the door, but when she knocked no one had answered. She let herself in and led herself to Edward. The film is based on, of course, the main character, Edward. Once Edward came down to the strange town, he barely knew how to speak, meaning the film had to somehow show his character. The way they decided to use is music. Music was a big part of this film, especially when Edward’s personality had to show through it. The music was created by Danny Elfman, who tried his best to make music that fitted the scenes and personality of every character. The music would always change in scenes, including the time peg accoutered Edward. The music went from a dark theme to an angelic tone after Edward said the words, “Don’t go.” The scenes often altered throughout the film, showing that there was a lot of emotion in the characters. Another thing to point out is the switch in colors. Colors also played a big part in this movie. You would think that the colors would indicate the characters bright and bubbly personality, however that is not the case. When you watch Edward Scissorhands, you will notice that Edward is probably seen as a bad guy, especially when he lives in a scary looking dark castle and he’s wearing dark leather clothes, but Edward is probably one of the nicest people in the neighbourhood.
