My opinion of island life is a a place were you do what you want to do and with you you want to do it with.The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding and movie Castaway (2000) is directed by Robert Zeneckis. He similarly explores what happens to mankind when left stranded on an island without civilisation, rules and order. In Lord of the Flies a group of boys are left to themselves after experiencing a plane crash, leaving them alone on an island. Golding shows that evil desires, the basis of human nature is revealed when left to oneself. In Castaway it different compared to Lord Of The Flies because in castaway there is only on person stuck on the island while golding has a dozen.Composer achieves their unique perspectives by exploring civilisation, characterisation and through the theme ‘survival’. CIVILISATION- LOTF In Lord of the Flies, Golding shows how humanity initially begins civilised, however due to humanity’s evil desire, civilisation slowly deconstructs. When the boys arrive on the island, Golding uses characters like Ralph and Piggy to establish law and order. He introduces that ralph is the leader then Ralph introduces the conch.The conch is a shell which you can blow in, Ralph introduced law that whoever has the conch can talk and everyone has to listen. But then a rebel comes in named Jack and breaks Law and order down and he starts his own group which ends up killing Piggy. This shows that civilisation isn't easy to have. You can have civilisation one minute then the next will be a fight. CIVILISATION- CASTAWAY In castaway Chuck tries to stay civilised, He gets a volleyball from a package and names it Wilson which reminded him of Kelly.... ... middle of paper ... ...ly. Wilson gave him sense that he is not alone on this island that he had a friend helping him along the way. CONCLUSION- In conclusion lord of the flies and and the movie castaway is almost the same by having the same aim for the characters to leave the island, survive. Piggy in Lord of the flies wanted everyone to stay civilised just like chuck didn't want to go crazy. Both authors have made a good story that have the same priority. My opinion on Lord of the flies is that the kids spent to long on that island, Its a good story, has a good ending anding but i wish piggy didn't have to die i was hoping it would be Jack. I would rate it 9/10 and is recommended for the years 12 and up. My opinion on Castaway is that good plot wasn't expecting most things were going to happen like him surviving for 4 years, i would rate the movie 10/10 as it was interesting movie.

One of the main themes in William Golding's 1954 novel Lord of the Flies is that without civilization, there is no law and order. The expression of Golding's unorthodox and complex views are embodied in the many varied characters in the novel. One of Golding's unorthodox views is that only one aspect of the modern world keeps people from reverting back to savagery and that is society. Golding shows the extreme situations of what could possibly happen in a society composed of people taken from a structured society then put into a structureless society in the blink of an eye. First there is a need for order until the people on the island realize that there are no rules to dictate their lives and take Daveers into their own hands. Golding is also a master of contrasting characterization. This can be seen in the conflicts between the characters of Jack, the savage; Simon, the savior; and Piggy, the one with all the ideas.
The films The Searchers and Avatar both make use of the master narratives of regulating social order and disorder. One is used as a way to reinforce this narrative, while the latter is shaped more towards critiquing the overall of ideal of the American social order. The struggle presented by an external threats in both films give the opportunity of interpreting and contrasting the master narrative and the effects that can come from imbalances in social orders.
Many people, all throughout history, have aspired to create a perfect life for themselves. However, this dream is not often very easily available. The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a novel about the decay of society, the blindness of love, and the pointless pursuit of the now non-existent American dream. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the United States not in the glittering golden light that many claimed, but rather cast in a dark gloomy haze, polluted by crime, corruption, and moral decay. Fitzgerald also strikes down the notion that foolish love is harmless. Additionally, the author illustrates that the American dream is a now no-longer existent, and foolish pursuit. Many thought the roaring twenties were the height of American society, but they were actually just the beginning of a downward spiral.
The Hunger Games was a critically acclaimed movie when it came out; however, some critics would argue that the movie can be sometimes too violent for its intended audience. In class, we have read a couple of Flannery O’ Connor’s short stories which include A Good Man is Hard to Find, Good Country People, and Revelations. After reading these stories, I noticed that Flannery O’ Connor changes the story but in a sense keeps the same main characters in every story. The main things that change between these characters are how they decide to handle a situation and their names; the things that do not change are often the outlook that they have on the world. I noticed the grandma from A Good Man is Hard to Find and Ruby Turpin from Revelations follow the criteria that I listed above. Throughout this paper, I am going to discuss the similarities and differences between the grandma and Ruby Turpin.

In America, it is becoming more difficult to achieve the American Dream. The American Dream is based on the idea that people can move higher up on the social scale, as long as they work hard work to accomplish their goal. The American Dream is also based on the belief that the social class you’re born into, is not the social class you have to stay in. In other words, everyone can move up in their lifetime if they work hard. However this is not true today, and people are not moving positively up the social class ladder. It has become a chain reaction of people with a college education vs. people without a college education. People with a college degree, or who have parents that have received a college degree, are significantly more likely to be in the upper class in America today, giving them an unfair advantage.
Humans are intricate. They have built civilizations and invented the concept of society, moving accordingly from savage primal instincts to disciplined behaviour. William Golding, however, does not praise humanity in his pessimistic novel, Lord of The Flies, which tells the story of a group of British schoolboys who are stranded on an uninhabited tropical island without any adults – a dystopia. Golding evidently expresses three views of humanity in this novel. He suggests that, without the rules and restrictions on which societies and civilizations are built, humans are intrinsically selfish, impulsive and violent.

These types of myths exist in every culture and, while the account of creation in Hesiod’s Theogony and the Enuma Elish share many similarities, the two myths differ in many ways as well. Both myths begin creation from where the universe is a formless state, from which the primordial gods emerge. The idea of the earth and sky beginning as one and then being separated is also expressed in both myths.
Lord of the Flies is a story about a group of schoolboys during a nuclear war that ends on a deserted island due to a plane crash. Just imagine the situation: being on an island where there is no way to escape, you do not know the dangers, and only with a group of unstructured boys. To me this sounds like madness. Problems will be on every corner of the island and someone will have to fix them.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about a group of British boys who get plane-wrecked on a deserted island. The boys cooperate, gather fruit, make shelters, and maintain a signal fire. When they get there they are civil schoolboys but soon show that being away from society and the real world it brings out their true nature and they break apart and turn into savages.
Civilization is compromised when rules become unnecessary and the children?s state of mind has changed for the worst. In Lord of the Flies, the conch shell and signal fire represent civilization, but as the children lose interest in having a leader, and following rules, these objects lose their meaning and savagery takes over. ?We may stay here till we die,? (pg.9) was a very powerful quote, because from the beginning of the novel, Golding is foreshadowing their future on the island. Another example of this is their painted faces and tribal dances, which happen when they?ve killed a pig. A force greater than they can control seems to take over their humanity, and because children haven?t been exposed to think for themselves, they don?t know between right and wrong. Therefore, society hasn?t conditioned them to be evil, but the evil resides within them naturally.
William Golding’s book, The Lord of the Flies is a wonderful, fictional book about the struggle and survival of a group of boys trapped on an uninhabited island. This book kept me very interested and made me want to keep reading. The characters were very diverse and each had very appealing qualities in themselves. The setting is brilliantly described and the plot is surprisingly very well thought out. Many things like these make this book such a classic.

In this way the Kress legacy of the brand became more than a retail business, it became a symbol of small town civic pride.
