What is e-business & its characteristics?
E-business is when information and communication (ICT) technologies are applied to support all the business activities. IBM’s marketing and Internet teams have founded the word “e-business” in 1996.
Electronic business methods allow business companies to work closely with suppliers, stakeholders, and to satisfy the expectations of their customers. This type of business involves electronic purchasing and supply chain management, electronically processing orders, customer support, and coordinating with business clients. E-business is usually performed over the Internet, the Web, extranets and intranets.
Companies usually use the Web to purchase supplies from other companies and to coordinate with others on sales promotions.

Overview of Emirates Airlines
Emirates, which has commenced its operations since 1985, is known to be one of the largest airline companies in the Middle East. It is not only known in the Middle East, but it has been recognized internationally for the excellence of their service. In 2013, they have received “World’s Best Airline” award, which has been presented to them by Skytrax. In addition, they have received “Best Airline to the Middle East” award several times (Awards, 2014). It is owned by the government of Dubai and headed by Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The several awards that have been given to them motivate them to develop their products and services in order to increase their reputation among travellers and gain customer satisfaction. The penetration of e-business model is evident from the fact that firms such as Amazon are competing with traditional brick and mortar stores. Although there are a few limitations of the e-business model, it can still be adopted by several businesses operating in the UAE. The increase in the competitiveness of business environment, in the UAE, has made it necessary that firms adopt novel and innovative business practices. The adoption of e-business model will provide companies with a competitive edge over others. Furthermore, the e-business model is also beneficial for individuals who are planning to start a new business in the UAE. It is because the model would allow them to start business with the minimal startup cost. The e-business model also allows business to save maintenance cost.
