Recommended: Tourism and its impact

Having been to DC many times before, but always as a tourist, I find a new kind of joy from being a self-proclaimed resident of not only DC, but Virginia. I think that being a new walker and a storyteller has been a powerful experience. From Certeau perspective, all walkers have a story and together they create the fabric of the city. However, there is an anonymity behind each walker and that is something that I found to be very empowering during my first week here. In between my commute to work or walking around DuPont circle during my lunch break, I found it very fascinating to think about how the city has come to life by all the other people on their way to a destination. Walking around and seeing all the buildings made me wonder what DuPont circle was like in the past. As DC is such a historic city, there must be a wealth of history lurking beneath its roads and walls. I am curious of the stories that have been written into the circle, but will remain anonymous throughout time. The story that DuPont circle tells me is one of a multicultural bustling city that almost never stops. In my short time in the city, I have tried to compare how people act around DuPont in relation to what I see near the apartments and from my previous experiences. What I have read from the city as a text is one of fearless people darting around, which I understood as unstoppable growth and hard work. The many organizations, businesses, embassies, offices, etc have endless determination to take the next bold step and work towards their ambitious goals. People in Arlington and in other places of the country, walk much slower and give off a very different sense. They are dressed more casually, move slower and give off a story of home and peace. DC is the complete opposite with a fast-pace, sharply dressed environment. DuPont circle with its modern buildings, sheek business-people, and multicultural narrative gives an accurate representation of what I think DC as a city represents to the

Certainly, it's not the same as literally being in China, however, you can experience a quantity of the culture and perchance grab some bona fide Chinese food for dinner.
